One prediction starting 2 deep
One prediction starting 2 deep
A prediction by a writer…. I dont see Beville at #2 QB we used a TE at QB last year rather than Beville…the rest is interesting….
Also we got a good punter in the portal, averages 42.1 yards per punt and has downed 67 inside the 20..

I think you and the writer probably agree on QB2. The title of the article is "Predicting the Oklahoma Sooners two-deep depth chart ahead of Spring Ball".
When he talks about the QB situation, he says: Brent Venables mentioned that Jackson Arnold is starting at the back of the pack but that it won’t take long for him to rise the depth chart. By the end of the spring or summer, Jackson Arnold will be this team’s backup quarterback.

I also noticed the title of the article. I can’t square that with him putting Jacob Sexton at #2 LT. The author even notes that Sexton is completely out of Spring ball with his ACL rehab. Author had a brain crampgcruse7 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 9:44 am I think you and the writer probably agree on QB2. There are a few other CYA disclaimers by the author, such a the ‘ young guys might challenge at CB’gcruse7 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 20, 2023 9:44 am I think you and the writer probably agree on QB2. The title of the article is "Predicting the Oklahoma Sooners two-deep depth chart ahead of Spring Ball".

I disregard those since they are a weak handed position compared to claiming Beville is qb 32 or any other top 2 proclamation…

Article is somewhat lazy at least at one position. Neither of the two guys on his two deep at LT will participate in spring ball. So much for “depth ahead of spring ball”.

At this point i think the 2 deep is wide open, more so than in the past……#1 QB is set but beyond that i dont think any 1 or 2 has any definite person…just look at it objectively…RB, WR, the lines, the defense …. I think everyone has to work to get a 1 or 2 position this year…..

I agree. Bringing in 37 new players in the Cho23n class alone (granted some were PWO's) should provide ample competition at every position, but QB. If I remember correctly, 56 of the 71 players that played in the 2021 Alamo Bowl for Bob Stoops, are no longer on the roster. Spring is for taking steps to ensure you have PT in the fall when it matters.Zgeo wrote: ↑Tue Mar 21, 2023 8:05 am At this point i think the 2 deep is wide open, more so than in the past……#1 QB is set but beyond that i dont think any 1 or 2 has any definite person…just look at it objectively…RB, WR, the lines, the defense …. In his press conference yesterday BV said that Team 129 has worked harder, smarter this winter and is bigger, stronger, faster and installation of their schemes is going much better than it did previously.
A commitment is NOT a reservation - Brent Venables 3/21/22
I read Beville is taking #2 qb snaps…….in the old days QBs would move up if they were better… this status quo did not exist back in the day
For example. Steve Davis begain his OU career as the #8QB and worked into #1QB, and had a career record of 32-1-1 with 2 national titles….
There is too much status quo on roster, i cant believe the rankings are so static, it would imply the non starters or in the case of QBs the players not on the 2 deep are not competing with the top two, i just dont believe that based on what my eyes have seen……
I understand the portal comes into to play. But this has to be a meritocracy in order to improve…….

I agree with all of this. I could see going with the status quo if we had won 10 or 11 games last year but we didn’t. Nobody - including DG - should be guaranteed a starting position. Earn it in practice. Have true competition at every position. If a new guy is better than you and takes your job, well that’s just how it goes.Zgeo wrote: ↑Wed Mar 22, 2023 7:42 am I read Beville is taking #2 qb snaps…….in the old days QBs would move up if they were better… this status quo did not exist back in the day
