Baseball pulls defeat from the jaws of victory

Post by SwampSooner »

It has been a long time since I have seen such a sloppy game.

Sooners were up 5-0 in the 4th and committed 2 errors leading to 4 unearned runs. What made things worse is it was a pop-up for the 3rd out that should have been easily caught and they would not have given up any runs in that frame. Our ace pitcher then could get no one out and the arm we expected to go deep in this game could not make 5 innings.

Still, the Sooners built the lead back to 9-5 in the 8th before giving up a 2 run dinger.

After going quietly in the top of the ninth, OU got the 1st out in the inning. Suddenly our pitcher could only find the strike zone with dead red fast balls, which Tech hitters feasted on. I don't know why we didn't put in another reliever. I guess Skip didn't trust who he had left.

Tech tied the score and loaded the bases with 2 outs. A hot shot to the 3rd baseman was bobbled allowing the winning run to score.

I saw several plays where OU overthrew the cutoff man, infielders cutting the wrong way and barely making it back to the bag on a routine grounder. One of the announcers said it looked like OU was not communicating on plays.

There was one play where the right fielder tracked a hit to the wall and had a bead on it only to have the center fielder leap in front of him to catch the ball. We were lucky that he didn't get the ball knocked out of his hands when he collided with the other fielder.

Sad. If they had won, they would have had tomorrow off. Now they get to play OSU - again.

Yep, they had no business losing that one. Very shoddy defense last night. Plus the Sooners didn't take full advantage of all the opportunities they had. And they had a lot of them! It was definitely a team loss.
I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong!
