Week 7 Pick'em Games - Week 6 Results

We’ve heard it ad nauseum since it was announced that Oklahoma was joining the SEC. The Sooners aren’t ready for what they’re about to get into. They’ll be middle of the pack at best. Oklahoma will not dominate the SEC like they did the Big 12. Etc, etc. Funny, but I don’t remember hearing OU fans claim they were going to dominate the SEC the way they did the Big 12. What I DID hear OU fans say though was that the Sooners were not going away, not disappearing into the shadows of irrelevancy. Oklahoma is one of the blue bloods and as history has shown, will be a player in the SEC title chase more often than not. Only time can author the final verdict as far as OU’s place in the SEC hierarchy, but in the meantime, maybe someone should inform Alabama, or Tennessee, or Missouri, or Mississippi, that perhaps the SEC is too tough for them too. My point is every team loses games. Ask Michigan, or USC this week. Losses happen. Programs have ups and downs. Even blue bloods. Some great seasons, some rebuilding ones. But don’t believe for one second OU will not make noise in the SEC as time marches on. Oklahoma is no stranger to championships. Their track record across the decades stands the test of time and is comparable if not superior to all the elite teams the SEC can trot out. The list of championships, awards, accolades, historical streaks, All-Americans, Heisman winners… Oklahoma can stand toe-to-toe with any other program in the country. Despite what other SEC fanbases may think, the Sooners will make their presence felt.

Oh, and to quickly add one more item while I’m discussing conference realignment, Saturday night, Texas Tech travelled to Arizona St. for their first trip out west under the new Big 12 banner. And in case you weren’t paying attention, the first half of that contest ended at 11:30 PM! The FIRST HALF! The second half didn’t get started until almost midnight! Just another reason to be glad OU has jettisoned the Big 12 and is now a member of the SEC. I guess it could be worse though. The second half of the Miami-Cal game started at 11:30 CST. That’s 12:30 EST. You can bet Miami fans were thrilled about that! zzzz….

And while we’re on the subject of time, it’s been said that given time, the cream will eventually rise to the top. And this week our Pick’em contest proved that adage to be spot on when we saw the return of a two-time regular season champion to our weekly winner’s circle. bvillesooner2, our 2020 and 2021 back-to-back Pick’em champion posted a 15-win, 165-point Week 6 total to secure his reservation for a stay in our weekly win penthouse. But he wasn’t the only player to throw out a 165-point performance, as Oklahombre matched bville pick-for-pick to also claim a piece of the weekly grand prize. Excellent job, guys! A well-earned tip of the cap to your Week 6 prowess! Meanwhile, sitting in third this week we find cushcreekmont enjoying his lofty perch, while Tag Team partners walt and Triple Option hold down fourth and fifth respectively. A solid performance from all of you in a very tough week!

Moving over to our regular season championship, the view remains unchanged at the top as SD-OU remains our overall leader for the 5th consecutive week. I think SD disagrees that variety is the spice of life. He seems to feel quite comfortable surveying the rest of the field from on high week after week. But it should also be noted that his hold on the top spot is a precarious one at best. One lone point is all that separates him from our current runner-up, cushcreekmont. Talk about neck-and-neck as we rumble down the backstretch! Who’s going to blink first? Meanwhile, reaping the benefits of his solid Week 6 win, bvillesooner2 has climbed his way into third, followed by Wishbone and gcruse7 who are currently tied for fourth.
