Lebby offense
When Lebby left he told BV that JJF should be elevated to play caller as JJF knows that system extremely well.
Seth came in and went away from Lebby’s system, and was unwilling to adapt to what personnel he had.
We got an excrement show.
We back to Lebby system now. It’s what JA did all his life and fits the personnel.
Appears like the excrement show is starting to be replaced by at least basic competence, although the sample size is small.
Will BV risk another excrement show with the next OC hire using a different system? BV can’t afford to.

My understanding is that SL said he would use Lebby's system, with few changes, and while he didn't change much of the terminology, he was not running Lebby's system. Whatever scheme SL was running, it was a disaster.
I've noticed that both games that JJF has called, that there is a QB option in the first series, whether it's to show it to the Defense, or if it is to get JA immediately involved in the game to get a rythm going, or both, who knows, but we are looking better on offense than we did in any of our previous conference losses.

Well it did not take long to see it was not working. I kept asking who was the QB coach. Many said it was Littrell. Most of the blame
Was placed on the OL & QBs. The timing of Lebby leaving put BV in a pickle with recruiting signing date approaching & not having
Time to search out a OC as he was forced to do what he did. No man that ever did anything worth while is free of making mistakes
& BV no different. You can not bring in offensive players that have no clue to who there OC is going to be.One thing I have learned
In all my years walking this earth is. We all learn from our mistakes. I would think BV knows that now. He must not make that same
mistake again. He must chose the system he wants here & the right OC to run it. Time is on his side now, & I would think the search
Is on.Lets all pray that is the case, & if so we may prevail be on farthest exasperation. Remember Bob Stoops as Great a coach as
he was, made the same mistake except on the defensive side of the ball, with his brother Mike.

Bix...I think this is one of the reasons why I'm feeling a little more optimistic about our offense going into Columbia. JJ is calling the plays that Arnold was used running with Lebby and in HS and the improving stats tend to that show that I believe. I know that JJ probably won't survive the next round of replacement on the offensive side, but at least he is calling an offense that Arnold is more comfortable running, and that energy will bleed over into the rest of the team on offense as well.Bixby_Sooner wrote: Sun Nov 03, 2024 10:21 pm My understanding is that SL said he would use Lebby's system, with few changes, and while he didn't change much of the terminology, he was not running Lebby's system. You bring up a great point about JJ. It could be he might be retained if the new OC comes in & sees what he has done. Why replace
something that is not Broken? Who knows but he knew how that offense worked.

I know Maine is Maine ... HOWEVER the Offense had an Identity for the first time ALL SEASON. THis is what we were expecting the first or second game. I do have a question as to why BV didn't listen to Lebby in the first place. I gotta say I like JJF interpretation of the Lebby O better than Lebby's!

Whenever the BV story is finally written, historians may say that this was the point at which BV screwed himself.captnop wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 11:50 am I do have a question as to why BV didn't listen to Lebby in the first place.

I do NOT think BV is getting fired. IF the experiment of JJF at OC with the Former Duke OC as QB coach works, then Hopefully BV has learned his lesson. I also heard that there was booster pressure pushing for Seth. If you loose your top 4-5 receivers + 2-3 of your best OL ANY coach, including St Saban is going to have issues. Remember the year BS forced Heupel to run the A&M manzel offense, lost a bunch a games and HAD to fire the OC HE FORCED to run the offense ? Oh yeah and his bro that had a WORSE ranked Defense somehow wasn't fired? Stoops is Stoops and when you've won an NC + a bunch of B12 titles you have some leeway. That being said. BV can't make many more mistakes, or have a bunch of injuries. I like BV, I'm NOT saying that because I want to see him go, but it is what it is.

I really want BV to be successful at OU and stay a long time.captnop wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 3:24 pm I do NOT think BV is getting fired. ...it was pretty much consensus here @ ST that Lebby needed to go...even though his offense led the Big 12 in yardage and scoring. (if memory serves)
And when his father-in-law Art Briles was seen on the field after a win, then he became "THE" pariah, and I think Joe C himself saw to it Lebby was history at OKLAHOMA.
Obviously Seth Littrell was NOT the right hire to replace him, and the jury is still out(at least for me) on Joe Jon Finley. But, I AM encouraged at this point.
What happens if we beat Mizou and are competitive if not victorious vs. Bama & LSU?
Does BV close ranks? Keeps the staff he has?
Perhaps NOT HIRE a new OC and cast his lot with JJF?
Thinking the next 3 SOONER games will tell us a lot.

It's a valid question, Chinaman. I do believe that when BV let Seth go, and then installed JJ as interim OC....it was probably well understood among all parties that the offense was so bad that this dance was over, and a new OC would be coming in with BV's own job on the line.OU Chinaman wrote: Mon Nov 04, 2024 7:36 pm ...it was pretty much consensus here @ ST that Lebby needed to go...even though his offense led the Big 12 in yardage and scoring. However,
If JJ really does have the offense rolling now, and what you say becomes true--winning at Columbia and possibly even with Bama and LSU, I think here is where style points come into play. If we absolutely roll Mizzou and then soundly beat both Bama and LSU, with our defense shutting all three teams down too, then we may have the conundrum you describe above.
I honestly do not think all that will happen. That would take more Sooner Magic than we have in the cupboard.
But wouldn't that be fun though?!

I thought about that. But I can,t see BV taking that chance. I think he has already been talking to top OC around the country. That’s
Just the way it is done, you guys know that. I,m sure he has OC contacting him. I can see him hiring a guy that runs the same offense.
Just my thinking, but when he picked Lebby I think it was in his head what was the hardest types of offense to defend, & that’s why
he picked Lebby. Another thing. The two years Lebby was at Ole Miss for the Lebby haters, his offence was ranked #3 in the nation.
He produced 565 yards per game in the SEC breaking the record f all times. That is why he was hired. Maybe he was better than many think. He is not doing good at Miss St, but let’s see after he has time to get his type of players in. Then again being a good OC
Does not mean he will be a good Head Coach. But as OC his record speaks for it,s self.

With the improvement in the run game & JA's apparent comfort & confidence in the offense under JJF, I think OU has a legitimate shot at beating Mizzou. Especially if Cook doesn't play at QB. I don't think OU has much of a shot at beating Bama, and even less of a shot at beating LSU in Baton Rouge, but if they can look competent offensively, move the ball, & remain competitive for 4 quarters, that would be major improvement from performances earlier this season.
I would hope that BV wouldn't close any doors on new offensive staff. I also hope he doesn't let pre-existing relationships cloud or influence his judgment. These last several games can be JJF's "interview" for the role if you will, but BV should have some of the off-field analysts researching up-and-coming OCs. Matt Wells would be a good person tasked with this. He has OC & head coach experience at Utah State & tech.
What could be a complicating factor would be the impact that staff changes could have on the roster. What if BV brings in a new OC & JA isn't comfortable with his system. The portal awaits... Michael Fasusi, the 5-star offensive tackle out of Lewisville in this recruiting class has said that he's basically committed to Bedenbaugh b/c he develops OL & gets them into the NFL. If BB goes, then Fasusi likely goes as well. Even worse, he likely goes to who are putting on a full-court-press for him right now.
Guess this is why BV makes the big bucks.

We beat Maine like a rented mule we hung a half a hundred on them and played a lot of young players. All of us are feeling great but it was Maine not a very good team. We know Missouri is a lot better and want to see how our Offense plays before I get to pumped up about our new OC and QB coach. Missouri has some good WRs I want to see how our pass defense can defend. I am hoping we come home with a win!
Geno my ole friend, you brought up the right Quote for now. “Let’s wait & see”! A lot can happen over the next three games.
I never thought I would hear, being a Sooner fan in what Brisket said, I hope we can play Bama & LSU close so we do not look
to bad!. The bad thing about that is what I was thinking, just did not have the nerve to post it. Brisket more power to
you for telling like it is. That was good. It is what it is, but I truly think our future will work out just fine.
