We have lost a SOONERTIMES legend
I think it is time for someone to share this amazing story. The story doesn't have a happy ending but that is why the time is right to spill Sybil's secret.
I went over to the Music board the other day and it occurred to me that I had not heard from Sybil in a long time. Her last post was December of 2022 on the Music board. I did a bit of research and I am sorry to share the sad news but it looks like Sybil passed away in this last year. If you click on that link you will probably be surprised to find out that Sybil's real name was actually Buddy Jones. I hope that Buddy is looking down on us from the heavens with a giant smile knowing that he was able to fool all of us for so many years. I personally didn't find out that Sybil wasn't a woman until a few years ago. @EMan and @walt are better story tellers than I so hopefully one of them will share the story of the night when we all discovered Sybil was a man in real life.
Every long time SoonerTimers poster knows Sybil. I joined SoonerTimers in around 2001 and got recruited to support the software in around 2007. Sybil predates me by around 20 years. She started both the Women's sports board and the music board. She was the only person posting about Women's sports in those days; she mostly posted about women's basketball/Softball and she had countless music posts. This was long before we all jumped on the OU Softball bandwagon. She also loved posting music links to her favorite songs.
If anyone has any Sybil stories, feel free to share them here
RIP Sybil. We miss you.

Thanks for letting us know. Didn't walt used to tease about posing in playboy magazine?

Yes. Walt would frequently say Sybil had been in playboy. That all started long before any of us got wind that Sybil was Buddy.
Sometime around 2007, we decided it would be fun for the SoonerTimes administrators and moderators to physically meet so we decided to meet in OKC for dinner. Most of the moderators lived near OKC but no one had ever met @sybil . I was one of the first people to show up at the restaurant. I think @walt @EMan @ClaireOKC @ClintA.Adams and almost everyone was assembled at the restaurant. @walt had the biggest grin on his face. He had chatted with @sybil earlier in the week and he couldn't contain himself; he said you guys aren't going to believe what @sybil told me. He said when Sybil gets here I will share her story. In any event when a heavy set guy walked thru the door, Walt said Everybody meet Sybil. I personally was very disappointed to find out that Sybil wasn't a former playboy model. We all laughed and laughed for weeks.
If it hadn't been for that dinner, we probably would still think Sybil was a woman.

So sorry to hear this! I have been wondering why we had not seen a Sybil post for a long time. Sybil was always nice to me and supportive when I would get into battles with other posters who I felt were out of line. RIP Sybil. Hope you have a nice seat up there to watch our Sooners.
I loved Sybil and never dreamed it was a guy. Sybil used to tell the funniest stories and I wish I could remember them but it's been more than 20 years. I have thought a lot about Sybil lately and wondered why we hadn't seen her/him on the board. Another angel got his wings.

Even though we only met in person that one time, I considered Sybil a very good friend. We shared many a private message and he definitely made me laugh! Great stories!
And speaking of stories, I'll give you my recollection of that one and only face-to-face meeting we had. Walt had let it slip to me that Sybil was actually a guy, but later said he was joking, so obviously he was just messing with me. Anyway, at the dinner that night Buddy was there with his lovely wife, Teresa. In the beginning, he let all of us think Teresa was actually "Sybil" and it was pretty convincing. I was really confused for a bit. Was Buddy "Sybil"? Or was Teresa? Finally, they spilled the beans and we all had a good laugh.
Sybil was one of the original moderators recruited to help with this board by its founder, Jim McGuire (ala, jimmc), along with ClintA.Adams, CalSOONER, AustinSooner, SoutheastSooner and myself. Sybil and I had a long association together and it's a very sad day to know Buddy has passed. RIP, my good friend! You are missed!

As a relatively recent member of SoonerTimes, I never had the occasion to interact with Sybil, although, like others, I figured that Sybil was a woman. Regardless, from the quoted paragraph and from other's post, it is apparent that Sybil/Buddy had a great sense of humor. And speaking of stories, I'll give you my recollection of that one and only face-to-face meeting we had. Sorry that I missed interacting with him.
RIP, Buddy/Sybil.

For those of you that may not be aware of it, sybil was THE driving force for the creation of an OU Women's Sports forum on this message board. As such, we wanted to pay tribute in some small way to this very special person and one of our favorite posters, so we've renamed our women's site to "The Sybil Memorial OU Women's Sports Forum". Godspeed, my friend!
