The Sooner Baseball Team rallied after a brief deficit to Baylor last night and won going away 19-7. The Sooner offense kicked into high gear in the 4th inning and provided the win for the Sooners with a total of 16 hits, 10 walks and 4 HBP to score the 19 runs with 6 extra base hits.

Baylor took the lead after the top of the 2nd, 6-2. But in the 4th, OU tied it up at 6-all. The Sooner lead was 10-6 after 5 innings. But the Sooners outscored Baylor 9-1 over the last four innings for the win.

The pitching for OU started out roughly with Braden Davis who has been so good lately, giving up 6 runs, 5 earned in the first two innings. But Davis righted himself as he pitched into the 6th inning before giving up another run and pick up his 7th win on the season. Crooks, Carsten and Hensley added 3.1 innings of scoreless relief to close the game.

On offense here is how things went:
  • Spikerman and Snyder had 3 hits (Spikerman had 2 doubles and Snyder had 1 double)
  • Madron, Carmichael, Mackenzie and Willits had 2 hits (Madron had a triple, Willits had a double)
  • Carmichael had 5 RBIs
  • Mackenzie and Nicklaus had 3 RBIs (Nicklaus had a double)
  • Madron and Snyder had 2 RBIs
  • Walk had a triple in his lone hit and the Sooners had 2 SFLYs
.

The Sooners had 8 of the 9 starters reach base in the game.

The Sooners magic number for the Big 12 Crown is now 3 as any combination of 3 wins or 3 losses by Texas or Oklahoma State wil produce a 1st place finish for the Sooners. Last night West Virginia dropped their game to Kansas State to drop them one game in back of Texas and OSU.

Great offense and pretty good pitching after the second inning for the Sooners.

Oklahoma and Baylor meet for the second game of the series Saturday at 4 p.m. CT. The series can be seen via SoonerVision on ESPN+ and heard locally in Oklahoma on SportsTalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM or nationwide on The Varsity app.

Saturday, the program will retire the jersey of former head coach and all-time winningest coach, Enos Semore. Sunday will serve as senior day for OU's nine outgoing seniors.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the lopsided win for the Sooners.

Due to weather concerns, the Sooner Baseball Team played two games on Saturday and they swept the DH against Baylor by the scores of 9-1 and 19-7. The Sooner offensive play overwhelmed the Baylor Bears in the three game series with 47 runs with 28 more on Saturday. The Sooner pitching was pretty solid also the weekend as they gave up 15 runs in the series with good relief pitching in all three games and one outstanding starting effort.

On the mound, Kyson Witherspoon started the first game of the DH an provided 7 innings of 6 hit, 1 run 4 walk pitching with 3 Ks to get the win. Carter Campbell finished the game by pitching the final two innings allowing 1 hit. In the 7 inning, second game of the DH, Two starters got the Sooners through the first 3.1 innings with tough outings as Hitt an Stevens allowed 8 hits, 7 runs (4 earned) and 1 walk with 1 K. When the relievers took over in the 4th inning, The Sooners were tied at 7-7 though. The Sooner relievers pitched 3.2 innings allowing just two hits with Atwood and Crooks pitching well. Atwood got the win in relief for Oklahoma.

In the DH the Sooner pitchers pitched 16.0 innings allowing 17 hits, 6 walks with 7 Ks and allowing 8 runs with 5 earned. They gave up 4 doubles and 1 HR in the DH.

On offense, John Spikerman had a day. He was 6 for 11 at the plate with 5 runs and 9 RBIs with a 2B, 3B and a HR with a sacrifice. Easton Carmichael and Michael Snyder both had 4 hits in the DH. Bryce Madron had 3 hits in the DH. Madron and Carmichael had 5 RBIs on the day. Kendall Pettis scored 5 runs in the DH.

The Sooner offense tallied 26 hits in 65 at bats for a .400 while scoring 28 runs with 14 walks and only 6 Ks. The Sooners hit 4 doubles, 2 triples and 2 HRs in the DH.

The Sooner honored former Coach Enos Semore by retiring his jersey, #24, on Saturday in a special ceremony and they also recognized the 9 seniors for the Sooners; Carson Atwood, Jason Bollman, Carter Campbell, Will Carsten, Jett Lodes, Anthony Mackenzie, Bryce Madron, Kendall Pettis and Michael Snyder.

It was a grand day all around for the Sooner Baseball Program.

In additional good news, the two wins guaranteed the Sooners with their first regular season Big 12 Championship. With their two wins the Sooners moved to 21-6 with one more series to play. A Texas loss on Saturday dropped them to 4 games behind the Sooners. Oklahoma State is the only team that can tie the Sooners as they remain 3 games behind the Sooners with one game to play on Sunday against Texas Tech today to complete this weekend.

Congrats to Coach Semore and to the Sooner Baseball Team with the DH Sweep and their Championship this season. One more win by OU or loss by OSU guarantees the outright Championship.

Sounds like OSU canceled their final game with TT today due to weather, so with that the Sooners have officially claimed the outright Big 12 regular season title and the #1 seed in the tourney.
