Sooner Women's Golf @ Belmar this weekend- Sat, Sun, Mon for 54!
The Oklahoma Women's Golf Team will take to the course for the second time this fall the weekend as they host the 54-hole Schooner Fall Classic at Belmar Golf Club on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. The play begins on Saturday and Sunday at 8:30 AM with groups teeing off of #1 and #10. On Monday there will be a shotgun start at 9 AM.
Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the Schooner Fall Classic.
https://soonersports.com/news/2024/9/18 ... ll-classic
I imagine the top 5 Sooners will play as the Sooner 5-woman team with the other four will play as individuals in the tourney. I also would predict that Savannah Barber and Isabella Schlick will play in the #1 and #2 slots on the Sooner team. I would also expect that Reagan Chaney will be in the #3 spot more than likely. The other two spots are up for grabs. Emily Hun, MaKayla Tyrrell and Audrey Rischer all played out at Pebble Beach in the first Sooner event this fall. But Gracie Mayo, Holly McLean and Rachel Nelke have all played as team members often. There could be lots of competition for the last two, perhaps three spots on the Sooner team for each event.
I do encourage any golfers, or non-golfers, to go watch the tournament some this weekend at Belmar. Both sides, the front and back are a good walk following the players. With the schedule, you can easily walk nine and even all 18 holes with the Sooners and be back ready for the OU-Tennessee football game Saturday night. The same is true on Sunday with Soccer and VB later Sunday afternoon. Monday, except for a chance of rain, would be a perfect day to walk all 18 holes. One warning, no jeans allowed on the course even for walking.
Good luck to the Sooner Women this weekend.

The rain won over Round 2 at the Schooner Fall Classic on Sunday as the play on Sunday was suspended after about a third of the round. The plan for Monday is "one way or the other ". (Yes, Blondie is singing that song in my head right now.) I received two inches of rain on and off yesterday on the south side of Norman. There are reports of up to 6 or 8 inches between Norman and Moore however.
If play can be started by 9:30 AM, the partial play on Sunday will be discarded. The players will play a full 18 holes on Monday for a 36-hole tournament.
If the play cannot be started by 9:30 AM, the partial round on Sunday will stand and the 2nd round will be re-started from the position the players were at at the suspension of play at 11:00 AM or as close to that as they can. Again, the tournament will be reduced to a 36 holes tournament.
The Sooners remained in 6th place through the partial round on Sunday. The Sooners were 2-under through their partial round on Sunday. Florida State did make a move in the partial round on Sunday as the were 7-under par and jumped up into the top 6 teams.
For the Sooners, Rischer and Mayo were both 1-under par through 4 and 5 holes respectively on Sunday. Hun and Chaney were Even par through 6 and 4 holes and Barber was 1-over par through 5 holes.
Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the suspended play on Sunday and the plan(s) for the resumption of play on Monday.

Good luck to the Sooner Women today in the wet conditions.

The Schooner Fall Classic will be started at 9:30 AM this morning (Monday). This means the partial rounds on Sunday will be dropped. The tournament will be a 36 hole tourney with Saturday and Monday rounds used.
I will note that it is raining at my home about 10 miles south of Belmar.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Team finished the rain-shortened Schooner Fall Classic with a 5th place finish at 2-under Par (558) as a team after the final round on Monday. The Sooners shot 3-over on Sunday and 5-under on Tuesday to arrive at their 2-under finish. Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the tournament.
https://soonersports.com/news/2024/9/23 ... t-schooner
The Sooners finished behind Houston (9-under Par at 551), Auburn (7-under Par at 553), Florida State (6-under Par 554 with a 10-under round on Tuesday) and TCU (3-under Par at 557).
The Sooners were led by Audrey Rischer (FR) with a 2-under Par, 138 total, for the tournament. Emily Hun (JR) and Reagan Chaney (SR) both shot Even Par, 140, for the tournament for strong #2/#3 player scores. Savannah Barber (JR) finished at 1-over, 141, for a 4th strong player. Gracie Mayo (SO) shot a 3-over Par, 143, as the final member of the Sooner team.
Four Sooners played individually in the tournament. MaKayla Terrell (JR) shot a 1-under Par, 139, for a strong tournament. Holly McLean (SO) shot 1-oner Par, 141, for a solid performance. Raychel Nelke (Red-SO) shot 4-over Par, 144. Isabella Schlick shot 7-over Par, 147.
The Sooners played pretty well this weekend at Belmar. Anytime the Sooners can post 3 scores for the tournament that does not include Barber and really Schlick, it helps the team performance greatly. It was good to see Terrell rebound for a good tournament after the first tournament. Emily Hun and Reagan Chaney are both playing well also. Holly McLean also shot a nice 1-over Par for the tournament. The Sooners do have some significant depth this season.
The Sooners next action is at the ale McNamara Invitational, at the Cedar Ridge Country Club // Tulsa, Okla. on October 14th and 15th (Monday and Tuesday).
Congrats to the Sooners for their 5th place finish out of 16 teams.
