Men's BB Team - Europe Trip - 2 Wins

Post by OUBeliever56A »

In an effort to try to catch up with the action, the Men's BB Team is 2-0 on their European Trip that started in early August. Their first game was against Mataro on August 4th. the second game was on Aug 6th against Maresme Select. The Sooners won the first game 97-41 and the second game 103-71.

The 2022-23 Version of the Sooner Men's Basketball Team has many of new faces on the team. I count 8 new faces among the 15 players on the roster.

Here is the breakdown of the players:

Nine Guards:
- #0 Schroeder FR - 6'7" - new
- #3 Oweh FR - 6'5" - new
- #4 Bamisile JR - 6'4" - new transfer
- #12 Uzan FR - 6'4" - new transfer
- #14 Cortes SOPH - 6'3"
- #22 Noland SOPH - 6'2"
- #25 Sherfield SR - 6'2" - new transfer
- #30 Moser SOPH - 6'3"
- #44 Seacat SR - 6'4"

Four Forwards:
- #1 Hill SR - 6'6"
- #10 Godwin JR - 6'10" - new transfer
- #11 Keita SOPH - 6'9" - new transfer
- #34 J Groves SR - 6'9"

One Forward/Center:
- #35 T Groves 5-SR - 6'10"

One Center:
- #45 Northweather FR - 6'11" - new

The 2022-23 Sooners consist of 4 Freshman, 4 Sophomores, 2 Juniors, 4 Seniors and 1 5th-Year SR.

In the two games that they have played the reports have mostly been about the new faces on the team.

In Game #1 against Mataro the highlighted players were Bamisile who scored 22 points on 10 of 13 shooting with two 3-pointers and Sherfield with 14 points and 6 assists. Uzan added 12 points on 6 of 8 from the field with 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 3 steals.

In Game #2, Sherfield led the way with 19 points on 6 of 12 shooting with five 3-pointers, 5 boards, 3 assists and 3 steals. Bamisile added 14 points and 12 rebounds. Uzan had 9 points and 9 assists while the Center, Northweather added 16 points.

With 9 guards and only 6 players in the front court the Sooners might be a little thin up front for players over the long season. But the offense may center around 3 guards if a guard can pay big enough on defense against their opponents. In an early guess, the guard play will be filled by Sherfield, Bamisile, Uzan, Noland and Oweh or Cortes perhaps. The forward/centers will be led by T Groves, J Groves and Hill. Which players step up between Godwin, Keita and Northweather will be critical for frontline depth for the Sooners.

The 3rd and final game for the Sooners is on August 9th against the Paris All-Stars.

Here is the staff writers article about the Sooner Men's BB Team win over the Paris All-Stars 91-53.

https://soonersports.com/news/2022/8/9/ ... tests.aspx

The win gave the Sooners a 3-0 record during the European Tour and Trip. In the previous two games it seemed that new players were highlighted and played big roles in the wins. In this game, returning Sooners seem to be in the news an story. It is good to see Noland and Cortes have good nights for the guard position. Newcomer Joe Bamisile had has third good game also.

The stat line showing the Sooners outscoring the three opponents by a score of 97-55 sounds like things started well for this group of Sooners in their late summer trip.
