The Oklahoma Sooners Soccer Team plays their Semi-Final Game tonight at 7 PM in /Round Rock, TX. The match will be televised on ESPN+.

As you remember the Sooenrs upset TCU earlier this season at home at John Crain Field 2-1 on a late goal by Ellie Goeffroy. On Sunday the Sooners defeated the Texas Tech Red Raiders in the Quarter-Finals of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament by the score of 1-0 on a last second goal by Michelle Pak.

Here is the staff writers preview article about the match tonight.

Good luck to the Sooners tonight as they attempt to defeat TCU twice in a row this season.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Soccer Team probably played their last match of the season on Thursday night in the Semi-Finals of the Big 12 Soccer Tournament. Their opponent was the very good TCU squad who prevailed 3-0 over the Sooners. The season ends with the Sooners having a 9-8-3 Record for the season and a 3-5-1 record in the Big 12 with 1 win and 1 loss in the Big 12 Tournament. To conclude the Big 12 Tournament, TCU plays West Virginia in the finals as WV upset the very strong Texas team in the other Semi-Final match on Thursday. West Virginia is closing strongly this season.

TCU, Texas, WV, Texas Tech and possibly even Oklahoma State are possible Big 12 teams to make the NCAA playoffs. But only TCU and Texas are thought to be 'locks' to make the NCAAs. While it is possible, it is doubtful that the Sooners will be selected as an 'at large' team for the NCAA tourney with this many Big 12 teams considered.

Here is the staff writers article about the Sooners loss to TCU on Thursday night.

The very young Sooner Soccer squad improved greatly during the 2022 season. After an 0-2-1 start the Sooners ran off an impressive streak of 7 wins and a tie over their next 8 matches. They finished the Big 12 schedule with 1 win against 5 losses and a tie including a win over TCU in Norman 2-1. The Sooners win in the Big 12 tourney over Texas Tech before their loss to TCU also shows progress. The article posted above cites many 'bests since 2016' about the Sooners in 2022.

Considering that the Sooners routinely played 19-20 players every match with only 3 final year players on the pitch, shows the promising future ahead for the Sooners. Coach Mark Carr will have a great deal to build upon for the 2023 season for Oklahoma. That includes three all-Big 12 players in Sophomore Sheridan Michel, and Freshmen Hali Hartman and Alyssa Washington. The returnees also include leading goal scorer Emma Hawkins and strong middle players in Cassie England, Leonie Weber and strong defensive players like Muriel Kroflin along with two GKs in Short and Ramey. Many true freshman played significant minutes and played very well for the Sooners in 2022.

The team under coach Mark Carr took several successful strides of improvement during the season. If that can be built upon by Coach Carr in the offseason with strong recruits or maybe a transfer or two, the Sooner can look forward to a improved season in 2023 over the 2022 squad.

Our record didn't bear it out so much, but this year's team, I felt, was a lot better than last year's...and deeper. Our freshman and sophomore classes are loaded. This year, the distribution of players in the different classes was:

Bold is over 1000 minutes played
2 - R-SR: Amos, Thomas
3 - SR: Short, Hawkins, Hunter
1 - JR: England
8 - SO: Georgsen, Wesco, Pappas, Amos, Michel, Kroflin, McMahand, Weber
16- FR: Ramey, Hartman, Murrell, Pak, Washington, Brown, Geoffrey, McCabe, Wagner, Clifton, Eikelbarner, Westlie, Rapp(2), Efremsky, Flake, Baltmanis

By minutes played:
1000+ Hartman (1694), Michel (1634), England (1448), Weber (1312), Kroflin (1297), Washington (1204), Hawkins (1132), Clifton (1126), Amos (1098), Ramey (1062), Geoffroy (1020)
500+ Wagner (761), Short (738), Wesco (690), Brown (628), Murrell (569), Pak (550), Pappas (505)
Less E.Rapp (385), Eikelbarner (381), Thomas (208), Hunter (161), Baltmanis (112), McCabe (48), Westlie (19), Flake (6), McMahand (4), R.Rapp (4)
