This meet will be televised on Big Ten network tomorrow night - 8 pm central.

It wasn’t showing up in my guide (directv) for several days, but now shows up in the guide.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Gymnastics will participate in the Super 16 Gymnastics Meet in Las Vegas tonight at 8 PM CST. The meet includes some of the top teams in the country with several Top 10 teams in attendance. The 16 teams are divided into four groups of 4 teams. The format is essentially 3 dual meets between the four teams in each session. The four sessions are scheduled at these times:

Friday - Session 1 - 3 PM CST
Friday - Session 2 - 9 PM CST
Saturday - Session 3 - 1 PM CST - Arizona State (#24), BYU (#22), California (#8) and Iowa (#18)
Saturday - Session 4 - 7 PM CST

Oklahoma is in Session 4 against Auburn (#5), UCLA (#10) and Michigan (#4) and Oklahoma. The Sooners are ranked as the pre-season #1 Team. The Sooners session will be televised on Big10 Network at 8 PM on Saturfday evening. I think you can stream the event or watch it on your cable, if you have the Big10Network provided.

I looked up the results for Session 1 and Session 2 that occurred on Friday. While a fan of both the Women's and Men's Gymnastics Teams, I do not know a great deal about the technical aspects and all of the athletes of the sport. But I do know that a team score of 49.0+ on any device is very good. A Total team score of 195+ is good and a Team score of 196+ is very good. As you can see below, there were several very good scores yesterday in Las Vegas.

In Session #1, the Bars performance by Southern Utah gave them a lead that the other schools could not overtake.

Session 1 - Friday Afternoon
TEAM........................ - VAULT - BARS - BEAM - FLOOR - TOTAL
S. Utah Thunderbirds - 48.950 - 49.050 - 48.850 - 48.950 - 195.800 (#28 Team in the Country)
Washington Huskies - 48.825 - 48.825 - 48.850 - 48.975 - 195.475 (#21 Team in the Country)
UNC Tar Heels........ - 48.825 - 48.850 - 48.325 - 48.625 - 194.625 (#27 Team in the Country)
Fisk Bulldogs.......... - 48.175 45.625 - 45.350 - 47.550 - 186.700

In Session 2, Stanford posted 3 event scores of 49+. Their floor performance was the difference maker in this group.

Session 2 - Friday Evening
TEAM........................ - VAULT - BARS - BEAM - FLOOR - TOTAL
Stanford Cardinals..... - 49.125 - 49.025 - 48.725 - 49.300 - 196.175 (#17 Team in the Country)
Georgia Bulldogs... - 48.850 - 49.175 - 48.950 - 48.975 - 195.950 (#20 Team in the Country)
Oregon State B'vers - 48.925 - 48.375 - 49.100 - 49.050 - 195.450 (#14 Team in the Country
Rutgers S'lett Knights - 48.800 - 48.250 - 48.500 - 49.150 - 194.700

I will provide the results for Session 3 and Session 4 tomorrow.

Good luck to the Sooner Ladies!

The Oklahoma Sooners opened the 2023 season with a tremendous performance at the Super 16 Event in Las Vegas last night.

Here is the staff writers article about the Sooners great win!

https://soonersports.com/news/2023/1/7/ ... -las-vegas

Coach KJ Kindler has built another powerhouse team with two new freshman contributing this year. Oklahoma Sooners Women's Gymnastics is #1!

Yesterday I said this: "I do not know a great deal about the technical aspects and all of the athletes of the sport. But I do know that a team score of 49.0+ on any device is very good. A Total team score of 195+ is good and a Team score of 196+ is very good."

I needed to add this - Any team score on a device of 49.250 is a great effort! A team score on an event nearing 49.500 is amazing. A Any team score of 197.000 is great! A team score approaching 197.500 is absolutely amazing.

From the article above, it noted that all 24 of the Sooner performances totaled a individual score of 9.800 or better last night. That is a near-flawless performance!

For the first meet of the year, 197.925 is a HUGE score. A lot to be excited about with this club. The depth is incredible.

The Sooners did not have a single score below 9.8 - which means all 24 routines were “hits”. They completed all elements of their routines. They “stayed on their feet” on dismounts and on the floor. They stayed on the beam.

Still, lots to work on here also. Vault and bars were ~49.4 and should be closer to ~49.6.

Gymnastics is hard to cover on TV - 4 competitors competing at the same time, with scores not available for 1-3 minutes after each performance. BTN was the worst coverage I’ve seen in a while. Several times, they went to a performance and stayed with it, even tho the start of the performance was delayed. They used only limited use of replay. They had extremely limited graphics showing the scoring. ESPN dies a much better job handling such a broadcast.

Didn’t get to catch the meet live but I do have it DVRed. You’re right though, ESPN absolutely masters gymnastics broadcasts. Especially for conference/NCAA tournament time when they implement ESPN+/3 and you can pick and choose what disciplines/performances you want to follow.

Very strong performance for the Sooners! Great to see the freshmen and sophomores do so well. Does anyone know what's hampering olivia trautman? I'd love for her to have a healthy, fun season.
