Posts gone after 6 Months?

Post by OU Guy »

It seems threads vanish after 6 months of no posts? If so this is why I am not finding recruiting threads posted prior to Aug? Was lookimg for Jackson Arnold 23 class thread and its gone. The premise of having yearly class threads was to post recruiting and commit info.

1. Since recruiting cycles can last a few years there may not be any updates in 6 months but later it gets active and the thread is gone.

2. Posting all the info in a recruit thread like 23 class, can go back and relearn about the player as season approaches or in season. Lots of good info we will forget due to how active our recruiting is.

If the board is going to drop all threads after 6 months then it would be senseless for us to take time to create/update when they will vanish later. Jackson Arnold is the cornerstone of our 23 class and is nowhere to be found now (in the 23 class board). Was going to post his new OU number in 23 class board but its gone, no thread in 23 class for him.

Just want to clarify so I don’t waste time adding content if it will go away so fast. If its a money thing to add storage or bandwidth I am always ready to help pay for it.

Thanks

Man, this is unfortunate. I hope we could have old threads stay longer than that. I had just started to notice this recently when I was curious what we were talking about a year ago and couldn’t find anything

We have had problems in the past with backups when our database grows over time so we ended up pruning the size of some of the forums. It looks like the Recruiting forum was using the same settings as the Men's forum. I don't think the Recruiting forum should ever have a size problem so I just turned off the auto pruning for the Recruiting forum.

Tom, this is frustrating to me because I spent a lot of hours over time to find and post the info omly to see it gone. It appears we can’t brimg it back and I have no idea who is missimg nor the time to rechase the info back down. I have always offered to pay to add bandwidth or storage but had no warning or idea anything would be purged.

My intent was to have a thread on each class player and over their time at OU could add content as it warranted. In 2 years or so as we look back at 23 class players maybe a player is struggling or not getting playing time, we could see their history from original offer to commitment to events during their playing years. Basically a time capsule.

I’m hesitant to add new info to the recruiting pages for fear it will get purged at sime future date. Maybe its for the best it was just me and a few others who added content on recruiting board, I have no idea if many others read it as they never or rarely posted in it. Its tough to see all that work get dumped with no warning. Had I known I could have just added a post to keep them withing 6 months but now its all gone.

I am really sorry that posts were lost.

I have changed the settings for the recruiting board. No posts will be pruned at all
