The #23 ranked Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team defeated West Virginia on Friday evening by the score of 6-1. The win is the 4th straight Big 12 win of the season after dropping their opening Big 12 Match against Texas. Here is the staff writers article about the win.

The familiar Sooner winning formula played out once again as the Sooners won the #1 and #3 Doubles matches for the Team's first point with the #2 Doubles match unfinished as play ended in the doubles.

The Sooners followed up with a strong showing in Singles as five of the Sooners won their matches their matches in two straight sets. The remaining Sooner split the first two sets against her WV competitor and had to play a 'tie breaker' that went WV's way 11-9 for the lone WV win.

The playing scores are detailed in the article above.

The next action for the Sooner Women is on Sunday against #10 Iowa State at 11 AM.

Good luck to the Women's Team on Sunday.

The #23 Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team picked up a BIG Win on Sunday over #10 Iowa State 4-1.

The Sooners, as usual, and maybe not appreciated enough, won the Doubles point by good play. The #3 double team for OU Garcia Ruiz/Guzman downed the Cyclones 7-5 in a close match. The the #17 OU Team of Pisarava/Sleeth was upset by the Cyclones 6-4 in another close break. The #16 ranked Corley Sisters downed the #52 team for I-State 7-5 to win the Doubles point that OU depends on in most matches.

In the Singles, two quick wins by the Sooners set up the victory. Carmen Corley (#106) defeated the #96 ranked Cyclone 6-0, 6-1. Then Garcia Ruiz won her match 6-2, 6-4. That brought OU to within 1 point of the win. I-State won the #5 singles match as Straker was downed 6-3, 6-4 to put I-State on the board. OU's Pisareva in the #4 match, downed I-State in a 3-set match by the scores of 7-6 (7-3 tiebreaker), 3-6, 6-4 to clinch the Sooner Win. In the two remaining singles matches, Sleeth and Guzman was performing well against ranked Cyclones with Sleeth ahead in the third set, and Guzman perhaps on-serve down 4-5 in the third set.

Here is the staff writers article about the Sooner upset win.

The Big 12 Women's Tennis standings is now as follows:

Texas 7-1 - L
Oklahoma State 5-1 - O
Oklahoma 5-1
Iowa State 4-2 - W
Kansas 3-3 - O
Texas Tech 3-3 - W
Baylor 3-5 - W
TCU 1-5 - W
West Virginia 1-5 - W
Kansas State 0-6 - O

As shown, OU owns wins over I-State, Tech, Baylor, TCU and WV. They have only lost to Texas.

Oklahoma plays Oklahoma State on April 7th at home in the Headington Family Tennis Center at 5 PM. That match could prove to be critical as the #2 seed in the Big 12 Tourney will likely be the result for the winning team. Oklahoma State did beat Texas 4-3 in Austin with Texas defeating OU 5-2 in Austin.

Good luck to the Sooners next Friday against OSU. It is too bad the match conflicts with the OU Softball game. I would be there except for that.
