Jordy was amazing!

Looks like the game plan against us moving forward is to throw as many pitchers at us as possible. Hopefully JT can start working with the team to prep them for it somehow. I'm not sure you can prepare for every pitcher we will face, but hopefully there are hitting techniques and game plans that can help. Maybe even going to some small ball at times, etc.

It seems that Jordy sometimes gets off to a slow start... if you're gonna get to her, better do it early, she tends to get better as the game progresses.
We were outhit by LSU, but the important stat is 3-0!!!

This is about the 5th or 6th game this year where a team has come in planning to use a pitch by committe approach. The lidea is to not let OUr batters get more than one look at any one pitcher. It can work to slow us down in a one game setting ,in a series we will have their pitchers and tee off in games 2 and 3.

I'm not sure we can count on being able to hit constantly changing pitchers, rotating not just in game 1, but also in 2 and 3. That situation is upon us now. Hitting coaches will earn their pay under such conditions, if they succeed in getting their players to tee off , even when they aren't sure what to expect from an opposing pitcher.

I was certainly glad to see Patty leave Jordy in for the 6th & 7th innings. To me those were Jordy's most wobbly innings. Patty could have easily pulled her, but she left Jordy in to work herself out of those last two inngs. Sure she needed the defense to pull a double play, but that's what the defense does when the pitcher is struggling.....albeit, ever so slightly.

Seemed to me Jordy did fine throughout the game. I tend to think Jordy now is the Jordy of old, before her fracture. What's concerning for me is our on again, and too much off again hitting.

They had a stat last night that showed we are hitting better this year than last.

I did not see or hear that stat. I want to believe it....but to me, it doesn't feel right.
Maybe the stat was our team BA? And perhaps that is better than last year. But last year it seems like we had way more power more often. I haven't compared this, so I'm talking out of school. But if you look at stats for runs produced, I'm willing to bet that we are way under what we produced last year. If that is the case, and I feel pretty confident we have fewer run-rules this year, and those we have are by much less margins, then what we have is higher BA's with fewer runs produced leading me to assume our LOB #'s are off the charts this year.

Again, I am talking out of school because I haven't researched any of these numbers.....but this is just how it feels to me.

I wish I had heard that comment about us hitting better this year and what the context of it was.

Thanks for posting about it.

Very quick -looking at runs scored only:

2022 - 579 in 62 games, 9.34 per game.

2023 - 319 in 38 games, 8.39 per game

Slight decline, still more than everyone else

First world problems.

It actually is right.

For 2021 the numbers were: 0.371 BA, 0.474 OB%, 0.734 Slug% with 82 double, 8 triples and 155 HRs and OU scored 579 runs for 9.34 R/G.

For 2022 before last nights game the numbers were: 0.380 BA, 0.469 OB%, 0.692 Slug% with 75 doubles, 7 triples and 69 HRs and OU scored 316 runs for 8.45 R/G.

So the BA was slightly higher, the OB% slightly down and the Slug% is down about 6% with runs down about 10-11%.

But after last night, all of the 2023 numbers went down.

About your LOB thought.

In 2022 - OU left 332 runners on base in 62 games. That is 5.35 per game. OU had 900 base runners with hits, walks and HBP for 36.9% LOB.
In 2023 - OU has left 221 runners on base in 38 games. That is 5.52 per game. OU has had 529 base runners with hits, walks and HBP for 41.7% LOB. So, yes the LOB is up slightly.
