OU beats Baylor and moves on to the Semis. Lost the doubles point but still won the match 4-2.

The loss of the Doubles point always puts extra pressure on the Women's team. But they did come back to win 4 singles matches and win 4-2 on Friday.

Here is the staff wrtiers article about the Sooners win over Baylor.

The #14 Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team won a dramatic match over Iowa State on Saturday in a 4-3 decision. Iowa State won the doubles point as the Cyclones won the #2 and #3 doubles matches with OU and the Corley sisters winning the #1 doubles match. The doubles point can down to a tie-breaker in the #3 match with Texas winning the final match and point.

In the singles, the Sooners won three of the first four singles matches that were completed as Oklahoma won the #1, #5 and #3 singles matches with Texas winning the #4 match. After Texas won the #6 match, Guzman won the final point of the match for OU in the #2 singles with a 7-5 win the 3rd set.

Yesterday in the last afternoon in Kansas, the Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team lost in the Big 12 Finals to Texas 4-2 in a very close match.

The Sooners opened very fast in the Doubles with the #1 Team Carmen and Ivana Corley (ranked #10) picking up two breaks and winning their match 6-3. The #3 Doubles team Garcia Ruia and Guzman won with two breaks also at 6-2. Oklahoma's #2 Team, Pisareva and Sleeth was ahead 5-3 and 30-love when their match was stopped with OU winning the double point.

In the Singles matches, Texas quickly evened up the match with 2, 2-set wins at #1 and #3. At #1, Sleeth lost to Khirin 6-2, 6-3 while being treated for a right forearm problem during the match. At #3, Carmen Corley lost to Zeylanova 6-2, 6-2. but Dana Guzman won her match at #2 over Chavatipon 6-4, 6-4 in a close 2-set match.

Tied 2-2 in points, the match came down to the #4, #5 and #6 matches. OU won the first set in all three matches. At #4, Pisareva won 7-5, At #5, Garcia Ruia won 6-4 and at #6 Straker won 7-5 with some clutch play to win the sets late. But Texas rallied back to win the second sets in all three matches. in particular, Straker got a questionable call late in her second set. On a ball that looked long would have taken Straker to within one point of winning the set at 6-4, the chair umpire over-ruled the call on the court to give the point to Texas. Staker, was a bit frustrated to have that point taken away and have the match turn so quickly from a potential 6-4 win to a 5-5 tied match. Even the Texas commentators said the ball looked long. the OU coaches questioned the call but it was to no avail. As that drama was playing out, Texas took control of the other two singles matches. In the #4 and #5 matches Texas ran out to 6-2 and 6-3 set wins to clinch the match for Texas. At #6, Straker lost the second set 7-5 after her disappointment but had battled back to be on serve at 2-3 in the third when her match was stopped.

Three matches in 3 days is unusual and I think the fatigue was a bit undoing for the Sooners. It was a good close match with Texas winning over Oklahoma for the third time this year.

When the staff writers post a story about the finals, I will post it here. It is pretty obvious that the Sooner Women will be selected for the NCAA later this week. Hopefully they will host a regional as well.

Congrats on their second place finish (with some disappointment) to the Sooner Women.
