Mack Bolan, anyone...

Post by OU Chinaman »

...ever read the old Don Pendleton series, THE EXECUTIONER?
Happened to find an old copy, #22 Hawaiian Hellground, vintage 1975 paperback.
Fast paced, fast action, fast read. Enjoyed it.
Scene example:

BE FOREWARNED! VERY GRAPHIC!

"The big picture window at the north wall popped and vibrated as something sizzled into the room and exploded into the face of Pili's escort, jerking the guy like a rag doll and sending pieces of him spraying everywhere. The window popped again before the little runner could fully comprehend what had occurred, and with that one the guy at the telephone was flung across the room in another shower of blood
Puli instinctively hit the floor and hugged it as the window continued to erupt and a seemingly eternal fusillade of heavy bullets demolished everything within reach.
When it was over, the silence was even more ominous than the preceding chaos. Two men lay gruesomely dead almost at Joey Puli's outstretched fingertips. The entire room was a wreck. Puli was aware that his fingers were stiff and aching and that he had wet himself.
Then another miracle was quickly borne in on Joe Puli's trembling awareness--he, Joey Puli, was a very, very lucky man. He had lived through two hits by the most fearsome son of a b*tch in Puli's dark world.
The Executioner had come to Hawaii.

And the b*st*rd was on the rampage!

(Bolan kind of makes me think about the OU Womens Softball Program.) :dude:

I absolutely love the Executioner series. I think it had 38-40 books. He sold the rights to them and then Ghost writers wrote after that. They are fast paced and easy flowing books. There are 2 other series about Mac Bolan as well. They Stony man and Super Bolan. I think all together there are 450+ Executioner books, 175+ books in the Super Bolan Series and around 140 books in the Stony Man series.

Definately action/adventure, but also definately not deep reading, just fun reads if you enjoy that genre of books.

...yeah, Pendleton died in 1980. He wrote Mack Bolan from 1969 with War Against the Mafia and ended with Satan's Sabbath in 1980.
Also wrote the Joe Copp series about an ex-cop PI by the same name.
And then finished his literary career with the Ashton Ford Psychic Detective series.

Like you said Bixby, no intellectual depth here.
Just erection inducing toxic masculinity with a dash of chivalry, a shot of panache, and a big dose of adjectives and action.
Bolan used to be a consummate example of an American soldier. No longer.

A soldier who took the marriage of his capabilities and his intentions, to make WAR against organized crime in America.

A comic book, mostly.
An example of American Mythology.
The good guy always wins...don't they?
