Hofstra Scouting Report

Post by AustinTXSooner »

They are 29-25 overall and finished 16-7 in conference, taking 3rd place in the regular season and winning the conference tournament.

The tournament teams they've played this year:
02/17 L 0-10 Washington (neutral field)
02/18 L 0-8 Washington (neutral field)
02/24 L 0-8 at Georgia
02/25 L 0-5 at Georgia
03/23 W 5-2 (10) at UMBC

The largest crowd they've played in front of this year was a conference championship game with 660 fans. They have 6 games listed with 0 attendance and 13 games with less than 100 in attendance. Their largest home crowd was 179 against Boston College on 03/12.

Their coach, Adrienne Clark, is in her second season as head coach. She was previously an assistant coach at Delaware, Columbia, Hofstra, UConn, and Purdue. Hofstra is in Long Island, NY.

Kayla WilsonJrLFL4611417082.149.279.158.437
That's not a lineup that strikes fear in the opponent's heart. Giordano is a good hitter. Collins is fine. I'd guess that she's a slapper. The rest is mediocre at best. Manto must be fast, but can't get on enough to make it hurt. I haven't seen a starter with numbers as poor as Wilson. I think it says something that none of their bench players can take that position for their own.

Pitching Staff (>25 innings)

Annabella PisapiaJrR19547.254181933.521.573.3991.056
Apsel and Mullen have 56.6% of their innings, but Venturini has better numbers, especially the secondary numbers. She's the only one with more than 1 K/IP. None of them look like dominating pitchers. They all give up too many hits.

It won't be a contest for long. We just have to stay focused.

First of, 'AustinTXSooner' - your formatting of the stats is excellent. I am not sure what your secret is, but I am very jealous.

Second, I agree totally with your analysis of the OU-Hofstra game.

The key to slowing down the Hofstra offense is to control the top three hitters and then just throw strikes to the other 6 hitters and make them put the ball in play against the Sooner defense.

IMO, Giordana should not see a pitch that is actually over the plate or in the strike zone up and down. She has the only bat for Hofstra that can do damage.

I also think the Hofstra pitching is not quite ready for the Sooners bats. They allow way to many hits and do not strike out many hitters. I think we will see at least 3 or their pitchers in the game by plan. The Oklahoma offense needs to be looking for strikes and swing the bats unless the pitch is in a bad zone for the individual hitter. Simply see the pitch where you like it, and hit it hard.

I believe Oklahoma should shut out Hofstra and the game should last only 5 innings.

I believe that Storako will start the game for Oklahoma on Friday. Deal and/or Bahl will probably also pitch in the game. I will be interested to see where Hansen ends up in the batting order as she is back to a full 100% once again. I also hope that Lee is a bit higher in the lineup this weekend. Maybe something like this:

Coleman CF
Jennings 2B
Lee DH
Lyons SS
Brito 3B
Hansen C
Sanders 1B
Torres or Erickson RF
Boone LF

So they had six games where no parents, boyfriends, roommates or friends showed up to watch? I really hope that is a misprint for their sake. If accurate, that is sad.

Believer, if you click the quote sign, you can see how he did it.

Austin, that looks like a lot of work, but the results are certainly impressive! Thanks for doing that.

...toaday about 12:30 I saw the Hofstra softball team leaving ON THE BORDER mexican food at NW Exprwy & Lake Hefner parkway.
I rolled down my window and told them, "Good Luck, girls!"
They were gracious and thanked me until I followed up with "You're gonna need it!"

Good Vibes, Chinaman! You gave them good and friendly vibes.

That's all you can do. Wish them luck as they are fed into the wood chipper at Marita Hines.

"It's not your fault and nothing personal...."

Now watch OU win 3 to 2 in this game....in the bottom of the 7th.....with a two-out, three-run shot from Boone.

Trying to throw anti-Karmaa here. Ha!!!!

I commend you on your use and command of all that math, Gandalf. Now, I feel like a proud papa.

...I stand corrected. I thought they were leaving ON THE BORDER, but turns out they were walking to CLARK'S CREW BBQ.
Which was where I had lunch, and in my estimation the best BBQ in OKC. (Chopped brisket sandwich, $14 bucks, and worth every penny.)

Yeah, it's some work, especially when you're pulling information from several different places. But I'm a software developer by trade, so I'm pretty good with a keyboard.

They both have the same entrance so no way to have known which one. I figure lower teams have more fun in situations like this as they likely know they have little chance. So why not enjoy the trip and all OKC metro has to offer. Majority of these kids would never have came to OKC after college and getting to be at HOF is really big for them. Hofstra is in NY. Love they picked Clark Crew thats a good one. I cater it in to my department every year and my employees just love it.
