Women's and Men's Tennis - Notes about ITA Play by Sooners

During the fall there has been both Men's and Women's ITA Tournament that are not D1 tourneys but insted ITA 'professional type" tournaments. It is very difficult to track these and to provide updates or results. For the most part, the only news is on Social Media.

For the Men. I figured out today that there was a Men's ITA Tourney in Norman last week with several of the Sooner Men's team playing. The results I see are:

Luis Alvarez won2 and lost 1 match.
Mark Mandlik lost 1 match.
Alex Martinez won 2 and lost 1 match.
Jordan Hasson lost 1 match.
Asahi Harazki lost 1 match.
Justin Schlageter won 1 and lost 1 match.

I saw nothing about this play on social media or on Men's Team website.

This week, there is a ITA Tourney in Fayetteville, AR. I see Jordan Hasson and Alex Martinez in the single bracket but there are also many blank spots in the bracket. On social media I see that Luis Alvarez defeated Zhang Yu, 5-7, 7-6(8), 10-6! That is not shown in the bracket however..



For the Women's Team, there is an ITA Tournament in Norman this week from Oct 30th to Nov 5th. I see Florencia Urrutia in the list of players to play. But there are no results on the website or on social media.

Good luck to all the Sooner players playing. I wish I could provide better coverage of their efforts.

In Men's Tennis action on Wednesday in Fayetteville the Sooner results are:

Jordan Hasson dropped his match to Lerby 6-7 and 2-6.
Luis Alvarez dropped his match to Stice 6-7, 7-6 and 2-6.
Alex Martinez won his match with Panarin by the score of 6-3, 7-6. - Martinez is plays Lerby today.

Hasson and Alvarez played doubles against Bancila and Cerroch dropped their match 6-7, 4-6.
Martinez and Van Emburgh played double and Won over Manuel, Sau Franco by the score of 6-4. 3-6, 12-10. - Martinez and Van Emburgh play today versus Kumar and Schacter.

Alex Martinez continued his good play on Thursday as he won his singles match over Lerby by the scores of 6-3, 6-3.

Then Martinez and his double partner Van Emburgh won their match 6-3, 7-5 over Kumar and Schachter.

Today (Friday) Martinez plays Phum in the Quarterfinals of the Fayetteville Tourney.

Martinez and Van Emburgh play Dominko and Nefve in doubles in the Semi-Finals of the Fayetteville Tourney.

In the 2023 ITA Fall Nationals in San Diego, the Sooner Doubles Team of Dana Guzman and Alina Shcherbinina (#4 Seed) continued their winning ways as they defeated No. 60 Connie Ma & Alexandra Yepifanova of Stanford in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4!

They will play Piper and Fry of USC this afternoon at 2 PM in the Quarterfinals of the Fall Nationals.

For the Norman Women's ITA Tourney, I found these results:

Main Draw:

USA - Emma Staker plays MEX - Maria Fernanda Navarro [4] today. Straker won her match 6-4, 6-3. Today (Friday), Straker plays Bowers in the Quarterfinals at 10 AM.

MEX - Julia Garcia (OU) plays Anna Zyryanova [7] today. Garcia-Ruiz dropped her match to Zyryanova by the score of 6-7, 7-5, 2-6.

Doubles - Main Draw:

SVK - Romana Cisovska (OU) and USA - Emma Staker (OU) play USA - Jessica Failla and TPE - Chieh-YuHsu [1]. Cisovska and Straker won their match 6-1, 3-6 and 10-5 in the Tie-Breaker.

MEX - Julia Garcia and CZE - Zdena Safarova play FRA - Sophia Biolay and AUS - Stefani Webb. Garcia-Ruiz an Safarova won their match 6-3, 6-1.

Today, in the Semi-Finals the two Doubles Teams from OU will play each other. It will be Cisovska - Straker against Garcia-Ruiz - Safarova. The match should start around Noon today (Friday). The Sooners will have a Doubles team in the Finals as a result.

In the Fayetteville ITA Tourney, the Sooners played two matches.

Today (Friday) Martinez (OU) played Phum in the Quarterfinals of the Fayetteville Tourney. Plum defeated Martinez 3-6, 1-6.

Martinez and Van Emburgh (OU) played Dominko and Nefve in doubles in the Semi-Finals of the Fayetteville Tourney. Dominko and Nefve won over Martinez and Van Emburgh in a very close match by the scores of 7-5, 2-6, 8-10 in a Tie-Breaker.

I think will conclude the play in Fayetteville for the Sooners.

On Friday, some of the Sooner Men's Tennis Team started play in the Ralston/Neufeld Coaches Challenge in Dallas.

I found the tournament site, but there are no match results that I can find, despite trying.

In Doubles play, Hank Trondson & Asahi Harazaki picked up a win over SMU's Stafford/Sunkel, 6-2, in their first match of the day!
In their second win of the day, Hank Trondson and Asahi Harazaki took down Wells/Chen of BYU, 6-1!

In singles, Hank Trondson defeated BYU's Brian Chen, 6-2, 6-4!
Sooners start the weekend off 4-0!, Asahi Harazaki takes down BYU's Jack Barnett, 7-6(8), 6-1!
