Sooner Men's Basketball: Big Game @ Ames vs Iowa State @ 7 PM

Post by OUBeliever56A »

With four Big 12 conference games left for the Oklahoma Sooners Men's Basketball Team, the Sooners travel north to Ames, IA, for a Wednesday night's game at 7 PM against the Iowa State Cyclones. The Sooners sit in 8th place with their 7-7 conference record in the Big 12 and their 19-8 record overall. The Cyclones are in 2nd Place in the Big 12 with a 10-4 conference record and a 21-6 overall record. OU is ranked RV37 and RV31 in the AP and Coaches Polls and holds a NET ranking of #40. Iowa State is ranked 8 and 6 in the AP and Coaches Polls and holds a #8 NET ranking.

The two teams played earlier in the season in Norman with OU winning the first conference game of the season 71-63 behind strong shooting with 10 three's made by the Sooners as McCollum, Uzan, Darthard and Godwin scoring in double figures and Soares pulling down 9 rebounds in the game.

Tonight's game is big because there are only 4 games left in the Big 12 schedule for the Sooners. It is largely felt that 20 wins unlocks the pathway to the NCAA Tourney for the Sooners. The Sooners have tonight's game with Iowa State, Saturday's game with Houston (#1 Team in the country and Big 12), Cincinnati (5-10 in Big 12) and then on the road at Texas (7-8 in Big 12). With a win, OU secures that 20th win and they move into a tie for 5th with 3 other teams in the conference. With a loss, OU moves to 19-9 and into a time for toe for 8th with 2 other teams in the conference. In the background, the seeding in the Big 12 Tourney is in play also.

The 7 PM CST, Big 12 conference contest will air on the Sooner Sports Radio Network (KRXO 107.7 FM The Franchise in Oklahoma City; KTBZ 1430 AM in Tulsa; Varsity Radio App) with Toby Rowland and Kevin Henry announcing and be broadcast by ESPN+ with Shawn Kenney (PxP) and Jess Settles (analyst) on the call.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the game with Iowa State.

Good luck to the Sooners in their game tonight at 7 PM. Every win that the Sooners pick up in these last four games, helps them a great deal.

Yes, if we were to win either of our games this week, it would be a MAJOR upset and would all but guarantee a NCAA tournament spot. Even if we lose both of these games, we would still have a pretty good shot at the NCAA's with a win next week in one of those games.

Horribly embarrassing showing. Porter had zero clue on what his team needed to do tonight against IState’s crushing defense. Jr high team trying to score against the Varsity.

Men's Basketball Drops Defensive Battle on the road @ Iowa State

The Oklahoma Men's Basketball Team dropped their road game in Ames, IA against Iowa State on Wednesday night 58-45. I did not see but the last few minutes of the game due to being at the Woman's Basketball game at LNC on Wednesday night. The game sounded like a defensive game with both teams playing very well on defense which affected the shooting by both teams. Iowa State won both halves of play, 25-20 in the 1st half and 33-25 in the second half.

Oklahoma was outrebounded by 5 in the game and outshot by 17 shots in the game on only 6 more turnovers by OU. I am not sure how that shot differential can be possible, but Iowa State did have 8 more offensive rebounds.

Oklahoma continues to struggle to score, especially by McCollum and Oweh who lead the Sooners often early in the season. The Sooners need to make more than 3 of 17 three's to win games in the Big 12 as they did last night.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about last night's game.

Two non-starters led Iowa State on offense with 15 and 11 points last night in timely play by the Cyclones.

The Sooners are now 7-8 in the Big 12 Conference and are in a tie for 8th place with Texas and Kansas State. The Sooners are now 19-9 overall. Iowa State maintained their 2nd place standing in the Big 12 with their win.

Oklahoma hosts No. 1/1 Houston on Saturday, March 2 at 7 p.m. inside Lloyd Noble Center.

Good luck to the Sooners against Houston on Saturday.
