#21 Sooner Women's Tennis: On the Road @ UCF and Houston Fri/Sun

The #21 Oklahoma Sooners will be on the road this weekend for matches with Central Florida and Houston. Oklahoma will be in the Orlando area for a conference match with the #57 Golden Knights of UCF. Oklahoma is 7-4 this spring and 2-1 in Big 12 play. UCF is 4-8 this spring and 1-2 in Big 12 play. The match with UCF is at 5 PM CST on Friday.

On Sunday, the Sooners will be in Houston to face the Cougars in a 1 PM match. Houston is 1-9 this spring and 1-3 in Big 12 play.

Here are the current standing for the Women's Big 12 Tennis:

The Oklahoma Women's Tennis team (#21 ranked) picked up a match win in Orlando on Friday as they defeated Central Florida 4-3 as the match was won by the last remaining Sooner on the courts, Julia Garcia Ruiz, as she won her singles match playing in the #2 spot by a score of 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 over Noel Saidenova (UCF).

The Sooner Women once again won the Doubles Point as the #2 and #3 teams won their matches against UCF. Playing as the #2 team, Julia Garcia Ruiz/Zdena Safarova (OU) def. Sophia Biolay/Jantje Tilbuerger (UCF) 6-3. Playing as the #3 team, Chloe Noel/Ava Catanzarite (OU) def. Donatella Guarnieri/Anya Ambarish (UCF) 6-0. The #1 team for the Sooners, Dana Guzman/Roisin Gilheany (OU) was unfinished at 5-4 when the doubles play was stopped with OU winning the second match.

In the Singles play that followed, the Sooners ran out to a 3-0 lead as they won the first two singles matches to finish in 2-sets each. In the #6 spot, Emma Staker (OU) def. Donatella Guarnieri (UCF) 6-3, 6-1, In the #1 spot, Dana Guzman (OU) def. Olivia Lincer (UCF) 6-1, 6-2. But the Golden Knights of UCF battled back to win the next three single matches at #3, #4, and #5 to tie the overall match score to 3-3. All three matches were 2-sets wins by UCF. In the #2 spot, Oklahoma's Julia Garcia Ruiz (OU) def. Noel Saidenova (UCF) 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to win the 3-set match to give the Sooners the victory 4-3 on the road.

Congratulations to the Women's Team for the road victory. They will return to Houston to play another Big 12 match on Sunday at 1 PM.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team finished up their road trip in Houston with a win 4-0 over the Cougars.

The sooners won the Double point with the #1 team of Roisin Gilheany and Dana Guzman (#22 ranked) winning by the score of 6-4. About the same time, the #3 duo of Chloe Noel and Ava Catanzarite clinched the doubles point for OU with their 6-4. The #2 team for the Sooners led their match 6-5 when play was stopped.

In the singles play, the Sooners quickly ended the match with three straight wins at the #2, #4 and #5 matches. At #2, (#33 ranked) Garcia Ruiz won OU's first singles point with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Garcia Ruiz is now 11-0 in dual singles matches this spring. Chloe Noel, plying the #4 spot, extended the Sooner lead by winning 6-0, 6-3. To clinch the match and complete the shutout for Oklahoma, Catanzarite delivered a 6-4, 6-1 win playing the #5 spot.

The Sooner Women are now 4-1 in conference play and 9-4 overall. Congrats to them all.
