The #20 Oklahoma women's tennis team is slated to host two conference matches at the Headington Family Tennis Center this weekend, beginning with Kansas State on Friday at 5 PM before returning to host No. 1 Oklahoma State in a Bedlam dual on Sunday at Noon. Kansas State is unranked but Oklahoma State is ranked #1.
Oklahoma holds a 4-1 record in Big 12 play and a 9-4 record overall all. Kansas State is 1-5 in Big 12 play and has a 7-7 record overall. Oklahoma State is 6-0 in Big 12 play and holds a 17-0 record overall.
The Bedlam matchup is a very big match for the Sooner Women. Oklahoma has already lost to Texas this season as the three teams are likely the three top Big 12 Teams. A win over Oklahoma State would be a very big win for the 2024 team.
There are links to live stats and to video of the matches in the article below written by Sooner staff writers.

I would like to highlight the Sooner Women's Tennis Match today. The #20 Sooners will take on the #1 OSU Cowgirls in a key big 12 match at Noon at Headington Family Tennis Center. I think it is likely that the match may be played indoors due to the weather and howling wind as it should be 59 degrees with a 20+ mph wind.
The match is important for more reasons that it simply being a Bedlam match with OSU. The Cowgirls, Texas, Oklahoma, Texas Tech and Baylor are at the top of the Big 12 Women's Tennis standings. Currently, OSU is 7-0, Texas is 5-1 after they lost to OSU on Thursday. Texas Tech is 6-1 with a win on Friday. Oklahoma is 5-1 with their being to to Texas the opening weekend of conference play. Baylor is 5-1 and lost to Texas earlier. When these five teams are matched up, each win is very important.
The Sooner Women need a win today against OSU. to keep pace in the Big 12 race and to give that first loss to OSU as the Cowgirls are 18-0 on the season. I will try to make it out to Headington to watch today.
Good luck to the Sooners today!
Boomer Sooner!

The #20 Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis team played a big match against the #1 OSU Women at Headington Field House in front of a big OSU fan base and a good OU set of fans especially for the singles.
In the important Doubles play for that first point of the match, the Sooners faded late in two matches as OSU played well the second half of two matches to win in the #3 match 6-2 and then in the #1 match 6-3. in the #2 match, Garcia-Ruiz and Safarova were leading 5-4 with their serve next when play was halted. The #3 match (Noel and Catanzarite) was filled with breaks by both teams, but in the end OSU held serve twice to win the match. in the #1 doubles match, Shcherbinina returned from injury to play with Guzman (they were formerly a #1 ranked team last fall). They were very much in the match until the last couple games when OSU started to read shots well at the net and was able to poach several easy points.
With OSU winning the Doubles point, OU needed a big comeback in the singles matches. Things looked good after the first set as Oklahoma won four of the six first sets. At #1 Garcia-Ruiz won 6-4, Guzman won at #2, 6-4. At #5, Noel won 6-3 and at #6 Straker won 6-3. In the #3 match, Shcherbinina dropped her set 3-6 and at #4 Urrutia dropped her set 4-6 in a late turnaround.
In the second sets, Garcia Ruiz won her match with a 6-4 second set win. I think this was the 13th straight win for Garcia Ruiz in singles.
On the #2 court, Guzman looked to be in control to win set #2 but a close call against Guzman seemed to turn the set causing a tie-breaker that was won by Kujura of OSU. This match was filled with long points and very strong play. The match was on serve in Set #3 when play ended.
In the #3 match, Shcherbinina dropped her match as OSU won the 2nd set 6-1 to take a point to make the score 2-1 after Garcia Ruiz tied the score at 1-1.
In the #4 match, It looked like Urrutia was going to win the second set to tie her match but an unfortunate break sent the set to a tie-breaker that OSU won to win the match 6-4, 7-6. That made the score 3-1 for OSU.
In the #5 match, Noel had won the 1st set 6-3. OSU rallied to win set #2 by the score of 6-2 to even the match. The 3rd set started well for Noel but she faded as OSU won the set 6-3 to win the match and the overall match 4-1.
In the #6 match, Straker was broken once to lead to a 6-3 OSU win to tie the match. The 3rd set was 5-4 with OSU set to serve when play was stopped.
