Jayden Gibson....knee injury ?

Post by WishBone »

The Sooners reportedly suffered a blow early in fall camp.

SoonerScoop’s George Stoia reported late Tuesday night that Oklahoma receiver Jayden Gibson injured his knee during the Sooners’ fifth practice of fall camp on Tuesday. Gibson will undergo an MRI to determine how serious the injury is, according to Stoia.

Gibson, a junior, has played with the Sooners all three seasons. He caught 15 passes for 387 yards and five touchdowns last season as a junior. The 6-foot-5 Gibson was expected to take on a bigger role in the offense this season with Jackson Arnold at quarterback.

He was a consensus 4-star prospect out of West Orange High School in Winter Garden, Fla. Rivals touted him as high as the 10th best wide receiver in the 2022 class. Gibson also had offers from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami (FL) and others. He committed to Florida before flipping to the Sooners.
OU has already taken some hits at receiver. Jalil Farooq injured his foot during OU’s spring game but has been practicing. Andrel Anthony has still not fully recovered from tearing his ACL last season against Texas.

VERY tough loss for OUr Sooners. Gibson caught everything near him last year. He was quick and his height was a weapon. He had been running at ! with Anderson. Now, our leading fumbler will move up to the other outside receiver spot. Hopefully, he does not fumble 4 times this year.

OUr best hope is the two Zion freshman come on strong and Littrell uses the two transfer TEs and Mitchell for snaps that would have been Gibson's.
texsa sucks!

Reports are kind of cryptic, but it doesn't sound good for Gibson - like maybe out for the season not good.

All of a sudden the depth in the WR room is pretty thin. Anderson & Brooks are still penciled in as starters, but beyond that it's question marks.

Andrel Anthony is still recovering from torn ACL vs. saxet.

Farooq is recovering from foot injury in spring.

Now you're looking at JJ Hester, Brenen Thompson, or Jaquaize Pettaway as the only other WRs with experience.

Beyond those 3 are the true freshemen KJ Daniels, Zion Kearney, Zion Ragins, or Ivan Carreon. Oh, and Kearney was injured his senior season & limited to 6 games... As far as I know, he is full-go at fall camp.

Something else to consider - Gibson is 6'5". Hester, Kearney, & Carreon are the only remaining healthy WRs over 6'. All the others are smaller slot guys. One of those 3 is really going to have to step up & into a starting role ASAP.

I really want to like Farooq but those costly fumbles and inconsistency really make me nervous anytime he is out there. Hoping like you that we really start using our TEs to take up some of the slack instead.... Bummer for Gibson, maybe it won't be as serious as they are saying.
