Mary Nutter in 2025 - Sooners not included in the team list.

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Here is the link to the Mary Nutter 2025 Softball Tourney in Cathedral City, CA in February. As you will see, the Sooners on the list.

I would say that the rumor that the Sooners were not going back to Mary Nutter in 2025 is probably now confirmed.

I have enjoyed that trip every time. I am sure the Sooners will be missed by the fans out there.

The rumor mentioned above includes that the Sooners want to hold a 6-8 team tournament here in Norman that same weekend with the use of both Love's Field and Marita Hynes Field. If that is true, we need to start thinking warm weather in Norman in last February.

From what I have heard, going forward OU will be still coming to California but playing in the Judy Garman Classic instead of Mary Nutter.

Isn't the Judy Garman Classic hosted by UCLA? or do they just like to play in that one every year because it's nearby?

I still can't imagine if we got left out of the Mark Campbell tournament?

A tournament in Norman the last week of February would definitely be an adventure. Just checked the temps for the 25th-29th this past February and let's just say it was a roller coaster...

25th: High of 75, low of 49. Started the day off chilly but turned almost perfect.
26th: High of 88, low of 46. Good to borderline hot, but 20+ mph winds.
27th: High of 79, low of 37. Chilly to almost perfect for most of the day, but a cold front blew thru that afternoon evening w/ 30-40 mph winds out of the north & temperatures dropped like a rock.
28th: High of 45, low of 27. Downright cold w/ 10-15 mph winds out of the north.
29th: High of 48, low of 28. Downright cold w/ 10-15 mph winds. Looks like there was also a little rain or sleet that afternoon.

Maybe they get lucky. They might also have to hold some kind of home run derby in the indoor facility...

Makes no sense to be either Brisket, except only if SEC conference play gets underway the following weekend Feb 28, Mar 1st & 2nd. But I don't know otherwise.
Nice recap of last years wx.

If we look back to the deep freeze of 2021, for Feb 20th thru 23rd...the lows ranged from 16 to 32 and the highs ranged from 41 to 72. Had a warming trend that weekend after record setting lows the week before.

That is a fair point, but let’s face it - the games could get played in those conditions. And, those conditions could easily exist on March 26-29 in any given year in Oklahoma.

Look at the big tournament in Florida this past “spring” that lost many games to weather. Just a fact of life virtually everywhere in the country in the spring. One of the coldest games I’ve ever been to was a spring training Giants game in downtown Scottsdale in late March.

Totally agree. Outside of maybe San Diego or Palm Desert, early spring weather anywhere in the country is a toss-up at best.

I kind of think it would be funny to see all the players running round like Ralphie's little brother, Randy, from "A Christmas Story." "I can't put my arms down!!!"
