The Oklahoma Sooner Men's Golf Team played well on Monday through 36 holes and finished with a 2-over par total of 554 for the team. The Sooners are in 3rd place, 1-shot behind Texas Tech (1-over par, 555) and 6 shots behind Auburn (4-under par 548).

Individually, Drew Goodman is tied for second place at 3-under par, 135. He shot rounds of 66 and 69 on Monday. (Par at Inverness is 69.) Matthew Troutman is 1-over par at 139 and in a tie for 14th as he shot a 72, 67. Ryder Cowan is also at 1-over par also with his rounds of 71, 68. Clark Van Gaalen, a freshman in his first event for OU, is at 3-over par, 141, with rounds of 72, 69 and tied for 24th. Jase Summy is at 6 over par, 144 and is in a T for 44th spot with his rounds of 73, 71. Goodman, Troutman, Cowan and Van Gaalen had the 'counting scores' for the Sooners in both rounds on Monday.

Playing unattached for the Sooners is Jaxon Dowell. He shot rounds of 75 and 70 for a 7-over par total of 145. He is tied for 51st.

Here is the post-day article by the OU Athletics Communications about the Sooners day.

The Oklahoma Sooners Men's Golf team made a strong bid to move up in the standings in the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, OH but finished in a Tie for 3rd Place 5 shots behind the leader Virginia. Virginia finished at 2-under par, 826. Auburn finished in 2nd Place, 2-over par, 830. Oklahoma and Vanderbilt shared 3rd Place at 3-over par, 831. Texas Tech finished in 5th with a 5-over total of 833.

The Sooners were in very good shape through 14 holes on Monday as they were 1-under par for the round at that point. The Sooners finished at 1-over par as they played the final 4 holes in 2-over to finish their round with a 1-over par 277. The first five holes of the day were also troublesome for the Sooners as they played those 5 holes in 3-over par as a team.

But a Top 3 finish in a top tournament is a strong start to the Fall Season for the Sooners. The five ranked teams did finish the tourney in the Top-5 spots, just as the results should be. Here is the post-tourney recap by the OU Athletics Communications group.

https://soonersports.com/news/2024/9/10 ... -in-top-20

Individually, the Sooners had 4 golfers finish in the Top 20 spots of the tourney and all-five team members finished in the Top 30.

Drew Goodman shot a 2-under total of 205 and shot rounds of 66, 69 and 70 for a Tie for 7th Place.
Ryder Cowan shot a 2-over total of 209 and shot rounds of 72, 67, 71 for a Tie for 14th Place.
Matthew Troutman shot a 3-over total of 210 and shot rounds of 72, 67, 71 for a Tie for 18th Place.
Jase Summy also shot a 3-over total of 210 and shot rounds of 73, 71, 66 for a Tie for 18th Place.
Clark Van Gaalen shot a 5-over total of 212 and shot rounds of 72, 69, 71 for a Tie for 28th Place.

As you can see, each of the Sooner team players shot at least one round in the 60s and no one shot over 73 (4-over). That is a solid tourney for the first tourney of the Fall. (OU was the only team in the field to have four players post at least eight birdies on the week. - from the article.)

Jaxon Dowell, playing independently, shot an 11-over par, 218 with rounds of 75, 70, 73 for a Tie for 63rd Place.

The Sooners will play in the Valero Texas Collegiate on Sept 21st-23rd in a 3-day tourney in 10 days.

Congrats to the Sooners for their 3rd Place finish.
