The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Cross Country Team will be at the Texas A&M Invitational hosted at the Watts Cross Country Course in College Station, Texas. The event will be a 5K event for the Women.
Their last event was on August 30th in Stillwater at the OSU Cowboy Preview. That event was a 3K event. In Stillwater, transfer Graduate Student Megan Johnson, who placed second, led the Sooners. Senior Gabi Barrera and junior Erin O'Brien, finishing second and third best for OU at the preview, I think that each of the Sooners that ran in Stillwater set personal records for the 3K distance.
The race in College Station on Friday will begin at 8:45 AM. The Sooners are sending 11 runners to the event. The runners competing are: Gabi Barrera, Peyton Benson, Nicole Clifford, Sophie Coughlin, Grace Hanson, Abby Jepchirchir, Megan Johnson, Peyton McQuillan, Erin O'Brien, Kiera Snyder and Mary Van Dyke. Three newcomers: Abby Jepchirchir, Sophie Coughlin and Peyton McQuillan will compete for the first time in the Crimson and Cream.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Cross Country Team finished in 3rd place in the Texas A&M Invitational 5K event. The Top 5 runners for OU finished with 71 points for their 3rd place finish. SMU ran their way to 1st Place with 48 points. The host Texas A&M finished in 2nd place with 53 points. Other teams of note - 4th was Tulane with 120 points, 5th was TCU with 150 points, 6th was Baylor with 198 points and Houston in 7th with 203 points.
The Sooner runners finished in this order:
#1 - Gabi Barrera - 5th place in 17:26.2
#2 - Megan Johnson - 8th place in 17:24.6
#3 - Sophia Coughlin - 13th place in 17:45.0
#4 - Payton McQuillian - 20th place in 17:57.8
#5 - Kiera Snyder - 25th place in 18:03.1
non-counting - #6 - Grace Hanson - 28th place in 18:10.4
non-counting - #7 - Nicole Clifford - 36th place in 18:24.0
non-counting - Erin O'Brien - in 18:24.7
non-counting - Peyton Benson - in 18:27.1
non-counting - Mary Van Dyke - in 18:48.1
Barrera's effort is one of, if not her finest, finishes in cross-country. she is improving very quickly as she started showing better last spring in the Track season. With 16 teams in College Station, to have 3 Sooners in the top 13 runners and 5 Sooners in the top 25 runners shows that the Sooners are strong at distance in cross -country.
I think this meet will qualify as a very good result and day for the Sooners!
Congrats! and Boomer Sooner!
