Oklahoma Women's Tennis Opens play this Weekend in Dual Events

The new look Sooners for the 2024-2025 season includes seven (7) returning players to the Sooners and four (4) incoming freshman as the Sooners reload a bit this season. One of the returning from a season long injury last year to play for the first time as a Red-Shirt Freshman. Here are the players for this year:

Ava Catanzarite - Sr. - Catanzarite played singles and doubles with success last season.
Samantha Fulnecky - R-Fr. - Fulnecky suffered a right wrist injury and red-shirted.
Julia Garcia Ruiz - Jr. - Garcia Ruiz played both singles and doubles with success last season. Garcia could play #1 Singles and #2 Doubles for the Sooners this season.
Emma Ghirardato - Fr. - From Italy, Ghirardato had a ITF career-high rankings of 64.
Roisin Gilheany - So. - Gilheany played doubles last season primarily with success last season.
Cara Mester - Fr. - From Romania, Mester had a ITF career-high rankings of 64.
Gloriana Nahum - Fr. - From Benin, Nahum had a ITF career-high rankings of 28
Chloé Noël - So. - Noel played single and doubles with success last season.
Salakthip Ounmuang - Fr. - From Thailand, Ounmuang had a ITF career-high rankings of 151.
Alina Shcherbinina - Sr. - Shcherbinina played singles and doubles with success last season.
Emma Staker - Sr. - Staker played mostly singles last season with success.

The 2024-2025 Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team will play in dual Tournaments starting this weekend. The two tournaments are:

• ITA All-American Championships, Cary, N.C. -> Sept 21st to Sept 29th.

• ITF 35K Berkeley, Berkeley, CA -> Sept 23rd to Sept 29th.

So far, this is what I have found about the two tournaments.

I think there are four Sooners playing in this tourney, i think. At least that is all I can find in the brackets.

Salakthip Ounmuang (FR) is playing both singles and doubles. Ana Catanzarite (SR) is playing singles and Emma Straker (SR) is playing doubles with Ounmuang.

In Doubles:
Sept 21st @ 4:30 PM - Ana Vilcek and Nikola Homolkova, (Hawaii) VS Salakthip Ounmuang and Emma Staker (Oklahoma)

In Singles:
Sept 21st @ 9:00 AM - Salakthip Ounmuang (OU) VS Leyla Britez Risso (Tennessee)
Sept 21st @ 3:00 PM - Ava Catanzarite (OU) VS Isabella Chhiv (Princeton)

The brackets for the ITF 35K Berkeley in Berkeley, CA is not available as of now. I will keep checking.

Here is the pre-tourney article by the OU Athletics Communications group about the Sooners playing in the ITA All-American Championships, Sept. 21-29 in Cary, N.C.

Information that was new in this article is that 3 more Sooners will play in the tournament.

The tournament is played in phases. First up is the Pre-Qualifying play on the 21st and 22nd in both singles and doubles. The Qualifying play will be on the 23rd and 24th. The Main Draw starts on the 25th of September.

In addition to playing in the Doubles pre-qualifying (see the post above), #100 Emma Straker will play in the Qualifying Singles starting on Monday. #118 Chloe Noel will also play in the Qualifying singles starting on Monday. No. 16 Julia Garcia and No. 56 Alina Shcherbinina will represent OU in the Singles Main draw starting on 25th of September.

Here are the results of the Saturday matches for the Sooner Women's Tennis Team at the 2024 ITA Women's All-American Championships in Cary, NC.

Singles:
Ounmuang (OU) won her match over Risso (Tennessee) by the score of 6-4, 4-6, 6-3.
Catanzarite (OU) won her match over Chhiv (Princeton) by the score of 7-6, 6-1.

Doubles:
Ounmuang / Straker won their match over Vilcek / Homolkova, (Hawaii) by the score of 6-1, 6-3.

The Sooners advanced to the next round of the Pre-Qualifying tourney on Sunday. Here are their matches on Sunday.

11:30 AM CST - Catanzarite (OU) vs Caballero Chica (TCU) - Catanzarite (OU) won 6-1, 6-1 over Caballero Chica to move to the next round.
Catanzarite (OU) then played Licht (GA Tech) and won the match 6-2, 6-4 to move to the Qualifying rounds of play in the tournament.

Doubles:
6:00 PM AM CST - Ounmuang / Straker (OU) vs Dudenay / Spee (Florida) - Ounmuang / Straker dropped their match 6-7, 2-6 to Dudenay / Spee (Florida). The Sooners finished their play in the tournament in doubles.

11:00 AM CST - Ava Catanzarite (OU) vs AC Luetkemeyer (UCLA) - Catanzarite lost her match 1-6, 4-6. Catanzarite falls to the Consolidation Round and plays Aulia (Tennessee) at 12 Noon on today, Tuesday.
12:30 PM CST - Emma Straker (OU) vs M Mushika (UC-Berkeley) - Straker won her match 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 over Mushika. Today, Straker plays Bissett (Florida State) at 10:30 AM (Tuesday).
