As the resident sunshine pumper at ST, when the state of the OKLAHOMA FOOTBALL PROGRAM is this disappointing,...it's difficult to be positive.
There are parties in life,...but LIFE ain't a party!
There is misfortune, disease, gravity, friction and death.
And everybody will face some adversity in their life!
Yet, it's hard to comprehend how far the SOONERS have fallen. The new HC, the 10-3 record a year ago, the improved recruiting all led to hype about this first year in the SEC.
Boy did i buy it. Swallowed it hook, line & sinker.
And that's partly why I'm so discouraged. So caught up in what I thought would be an epic SOONER season, I did not see this coming. I wasn't prepared for the possibility of what's happened.
But, over the course of my life, I have learned that life never leaves us stranded.
If it hands us adversity it also hands us the opportunity and ability to meet it successfully. To turn it around. To face the challenge and overcome it.
I LOVE SOONER FOOTBALL LIKE NOTHING ELSE IN MY LIFE!
To see it humiliated.
To see it laughed at.
To see & hear SOONER "fans" toss out ugly insults and assertions.
Hard for me to stomach.
Yet, I understand the anguish.
The whole psyche, the self image of this entire State is irrevocably tied to the success or failure of OUR COLLEGE FOOTBALL TEAM. It's always been that one "THING" Oklahomans can hold up proudly.
I GET IT! Believe me.
But, I remember Gomer Jones, Howard, & Blake. I remember the despair of losing seasons.
Through them all, I never lost faith. I never gave up.
I knew the glory of winning SOONER football WOULD RETURN,...some way,...some time,...some how.
I still know it!
There is some tough sledding ahead of us. Even the Maine Black Bears have to be thinking, "we have a chance in Norman."
Sadly, they may be right.
But I've decided not to wallow in self pity. I'm going to endure this. I'm going to stand with my State, my University, my SOONER football team and my peers of like mind.
This too shall pass!
As for the 8th Week of Snarling Dogs, it was more of the same.
First thing, the SD Defending Champ claimed this game's highest score.
