I wasn't talking about the last play, but the kid does not seem to understand when to throw the ball away.Fly wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 10:26 pm What game were you watching. Arnold was setting up to pass & they hit him, my god I can not believe you blame that on him. It

In re-looking at the play where JA got stripped of the ball, if he had better field vision there was all sorts of running room to the left of where he was in the pocket. He just doesn't see the field all that well, IMO.
I think that Arnold is a good kid, but he really doesn't react all that well to game time situations. He is indecisive a lot of the time, and the defense has time to pressure him. It doesn't help that Howland is a statue, and Brown (when he is playing is even worse.
Ah well, we are in for it the last two games. Can you say BEATDOWN. We had this game in our back pocket and let it get away.

You are 100% correct that Arnold doesn't see the field well. There were multiple times he had someone open, as pointed out by the announcers, but didn't see them because he was looking down and then bailed out of the pocket too early, which he does entirely too often. Even when he bails out, he often goes the wrong way when he has a lane in a different direction.BudaSooner wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 12:08 am In re-looking at the play where JA got stripped of the ball, if he had better field vision there was all sorts of running room to the left of where he was in the pocket. Good kid, below average QB.

Jackson is not comfortable under pressure......not at all like Baker. That's a 5* vs a *3. If this doesn't prove that the high school rankings might not mean all it's put up to be, then nothing will.

I have to assume that when we benched Hawkins in the SC game and put the paddles on JA and brought him back to life, that at that point we were determined to ride into the sunset with Arnold come he!! or high water. Well, we have both now....and many have made observations that JA just doesn't see the field well--especially under pressure. I know Hawk threw a bunch of interceptions against SC, but he does seem to see the field better. At this point with nothing to lose, why not give Hawk another shot, at least he would add some speed to the position and might improve the ground game with a little option stuff thrown in.

I agree I think Hawk with Barns, Tatum and Robinson would be a hell of a lot better. The defense even with the poor pass defense is good enough for us to win games. The OL does open up lanes for the RBs and Hawk is faster with his passes and running. He was in a little over a half against Tenn and started 3 games till he was pulled in the SC game as he should have been. I still think he his better than Arnold. But that is only my opinion.TropicalSooner wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 10:57 am I have to assume that when we benched Hawkins in the SC game and put the paddles on JA and brought him back to life, that at that point we were determined to ride into the sunset with Arnold come he!! or high water. Our defense isn't all that bad in spite of needing a lot of work on pass defense. The trouble is, they're out there so much they're tired in the 2nd half because our offense is turning the ball over or running 3 and outs forcing them to come right back out on the field again. If we could get any kind of meaningful running game going, it would be good for the defense to give them a break, chew up some time off the clock, and keep the opponents offense off the field, and maybe wind up with some points. Maybe. The first half, our defense was pretty good. It was a 9-3 ball game at that point, but our defense had us in it in spite of the offense's failure to get TDs.
