Seems like maybe Jayda was the big star year before Cyd and of course was super during the season.
Cyd has gone backwards from her PAC 12 performance..not sure what happened. You knew Jayda,Tiare,Alyssa,Riley etc were going to hit. Outside of a few kids this year, it is the other kids in those years that are most comparable to a good portion of this years team..eg unproven P4 hitters. Same thing with all of the pitchers outside of Deal. How did they fare agsinst the likes of Parker, Pickering and Agbayani? Lots of unknowns this year..should be interesting. Patty is going to earn her salary this year 😂

We start with a trio of returners that are about as good as anyone else in the country. How many teams have 3 returning players that hit 40 HRs? 5? Maybe 10? Including a finalist for freshman of the year? I know we fans like to bag on Cyd, but 15 hrs, excellent OB stats and quality defense is nothing to frown about.

Add to that a nice collection of “returners”, just not OU returners. How many teams are returning a player that went 6-8 against OU (and pitched in a win against OU), Like Ogbayani (I promise to learn to spell her name)? And a ton of excellent freshman.

I’m calling it now - Nellie Mac is going to be a contender for freshman of the year in the SEC and ncaa overall.

Our pitching may be down in 2025 but our offense will be top 5.

We aren’t going thru the sec with 0-2 losses, but we aren’t going to have a losing sec record either.

You didn’t quote me but I assume this was in response to me. Just for posterity sake I was referring to (albeit a bit awkwardly) what I thought it would take for THEM to have a winning record against the top SEC teams.

Besides Texas and Florida, other top SEC teams have their own youth problem to deal with. OU will be rounded into shape by the time they face their toughest challenge at the end of the season.

Don’t disagree. That said I think that after conference play is done if they have a .500 record against the top 4-5 teams in the conference standings that will be good.

These past Fall stats look similar to this Fall's stats: The Battle Series roughs up the pitchers' ERA. Even Bahl and Maxwell came out of it a little crispy in the ERA Dept. Makes sense to me.

I like to reflect on my perceptions and expectations for players after the Fall season is over. Like many have pointed out, some players (like Coor, Sanders, and I'll throw Donahoo in that mix) looked like they were going to have great seasons ahead and did not come through as expected. Also, some of the Stars did not shine their brightest until the following Spring. I'm not completely clear on the correlation between Fall and Spring performances. Consistency seems to correlate pretty well, however.

Sanders is an interesting example because her stats are good to very good in some ways, yet the jury is divided about her. She is an interesting mix of talents and vulnerabilities. For me, it is the difference between what I think she CAN do and what she DOES that shades my opinion - perhaps unfairly. I'm pulling for her to improve her BA this year.

The only way to be a proven P-4 hitter is to play P-4 ball.

I think we all agree 2025 is going to be an interesting and exciting season. New team. New Conference. New Challenges for the program from top to bottom.

Can't wait!

I had Sanders with a .290 BA hitting in the lower part of the line up with power. Hopefully she can continue to deliver at biggest moments. Like you said, if we don’t let her freshman season cloud out judgement, she is performing fine and should have no issue being our 1B starter.

I have always been hard on players whose batting average is over .100 lower than the rest of the team (no matter what their other talents are). I was surprised that Sanders got as much playing time as she did last year. I expect this year's lineup to be not nearly as deep as last years lineup; I am sure that Sanders will once again get lots of at bats whether she raises her batting average or not. I would like to see Ella Parker at 1B.

Parker is a good first baseman. Sanders is an excellent first baseman. I believe they will need both bats in the lineup unless you think the 5th outfielder's bat would be better than Sanders. That would be from among Pickering, Parker, Dayton, Coor, Bland, Milloy, Helton.

Patty likes Sanders at first. Ella will DP…the prospect of her diving for a ball out in the OF after recently having shoulder surgery is probably not something Petty wants to entertain. Also I doubt there are 10 better hitters on the team than Sanders and she is their best 1b. Like somebody else said she is a solid player..it is just odd that she has yet to come close to matching her freshman year.

I would agree the stats against the outside teams mean less than the battle series. But I was also point out that even the battle series stats have to be taken with a grain of salt - familiar (pitcher) against familiar (batter) is a lot different from going against teams that, while perhaps competitive on talent, have little familiarity with their opponent.

I’m not sure if familiarity benefits more the pitcher or the batter. I suspect the batter begins to develop and advantage, but there are plenty of mlb hitters with terrible averages against some pitchers, even with dozens of AB’s.
Seems that these discussions are not considering that Rocha may be putting pitchers in to challenge/evaluate the hitters, and she may call "outside low pitches" while Gasso calls "hit and run" just to see what the batter will do. She knows how good Deal and Monticello are, so stats may not reflect that called pitches were not to get strikes but to test/train batters. Your thoughts ?

That is completely true, so the battle series stats need to be taken with a grain of salt. Listen to what Patty says in press conferences and she is a straight shooter that tells it like it is. Patty said she is pleased with the pitching, that is enough for me.
