Alley addressed the WVA rumors yesterday after the loss to Navy. He said he was staying. He worked with RichRod before but I can't believe we wouldn't match the money. He may have been worried about the whole OU coaching staff getting fired after next year. Or is something in the works now?

My guess is he thinks they can’t right the ship next year and they all would get fired, so he left for more job security….after what I saw yesterday I’m not sure I blame him….there were some really strange management decisions made in that game.

The “BV can do no wrong” brigade will be here shortly to explain how this is actually a good thing and we all need to stop overreacting.

...Zac was asked about this after the Armed Forces Bowl Game with Navy and was somewhat evasive.
Not sure it bodes well for Venables or OU moving forward.
Wondering if Brent will hire someone else or just call the the defense himself, now that it appears he's turning his offense to Arbuckle.
Somewhat troubling that a young hungry tiger believes his career would be better served at West Va. rather than OKLAHOMA.
Maybe Venables wasn't satisfied with his performance and advised him to take Rodriguez's offer.
The SOONER program appears to be taking water faster & faster.

Don't think you'll see a single member explain "how this is a good thing."
I've already addressed posters like you in another thread. Wallow in your self-righteous sanctimony, Tony.
You do it very well.

...you don't rate my ire.
Even if you did,...you'd just continue to do what you've always done.
Enjoy your cynicism. It suits you!

Assuming this is true, like this season, next season is over before it even began. Venables gave Alley a huge opportunity that West Virginia does not provide outside of the job role and he's completely disrespecting that. With college football now being semi-pro and plagued by liars, I think I'm done with the lunacy.

I do wonder a bit if this was a situation where he might have been encouraged to find work elsewhere. No evidence for that or anything, just something that crossed my mind as it does seem a bit odd. He seemed like a good coach, and our defense was quite good, Top 15 in YPG allowed I believe. Maybe this is a case of BV wanting to run the defense himself now that he has a proven OC to oversee that side of the ball, or if maybe he has intentions to bring someone a bit older/more experienced that he coached with at Clemson in for the role. Remember, technically Alley was Co-DC, not the sole DC so maybe he wanted that title and thus left for Appalachia. I also seem to remember some rumors before Alley was hired that the DC at Kentucky was being looked at for the role, so maybe that is the move now. Who knows? We will probably never get a full explanation and honestly shouldn't expect one.
I do think we'll see Demarco, JJF and Emmet Jones leave as well after some "encouragement." At this point I wouldn't be shocked to see Bedenbaugh leave either.
The funny thing to me is that the folks here screaming in other threads for wholesale coaching changes, are now acting like a coach leaving is the end of the world. You can't have it both ways folks........

Oklahoma has been knocked down a peg or two in the CFB pecking order. They're is no other way to describe it. Loose TBOW in a lateral move. Now we lose a promising young DC to WEST VIRGINIA? That is a kick in the nuts.
Guys this is has been a rummer for before the bowl game. I truly do not has anything on bad faith. One thing no matter what, with
the defense BV going to have the last say. That’s his expertise no matter who over seeing it. Now Offense is a different cat. He put
SL over that, & look what happened. Being a past player does not make you a good coach. Now he hires a coach in Arbuckle that
Has proved his worth doing what he has done at Washington St. We were very lucky to get him. He has been given free reign over
that side. BV knows a lot of good defensive coaches out there. I think we will be fine.
