The #14 Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team (1-2 in SEC play) hosts the Missouri Tigers (1-2 in SEC Play) at 5 PM on Friday night at Headington Tennis Series to open their Home Schedule in the SEC. I was able to see the re-made outdoor Tennis courts last night. If the Women get to play on the newly constructed Stadium side of the Center (East Outdoor Courts) it wil be very nice to watch the games from th elevated South seating area. They still have a few lines to lay down and the nets to install to be completed.
To catch up on the Sooner Women Tennis Team, they have had a tough opening schedule in the SEC. The Sooners opened play in the SEC at Arkansas (Ranked #62) on Feb 22nd. The Sooners defeted the Razorbacks 4-3. But the Sooners dropped the Double Point with revised doubles teams from the Spring season regulars. But the Sooners bounce back in Singles and won 4 or 6 Matches to win the match 4-3. Shcherbinina (#2 Court), Ounmuang (#3 Court), Straker (#4 Court) and Nahum (Court #6) all won their matches to give the Sooners the win.
University of Oklahoma women's tennis player Salakthip Ounmuang was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Freshman of the Week on Wednesday following her performance in the Sooners' 4-3 conference-opening win over Arkansas on Saturday.
The next set of matches were on the road last weekend. The Sooners traveled for the 2nd and 3rd matches to Texas (Ranked #11) on Feb 28th and Texas A&M (Ranked #5) on March 2nd. In Austin, the Sooners made a strong effort to win over the Longhorns before they lost 3-4 to Texas. Using the same Double lineup, the Sooners dropped the Double point to Texas to fall behind 1-0. In the Singles, the Sooners won the first 3 out of 5 Singles matches to finish as Nahum (Court #6), Ounmuang (Court #3) and Catanzarite (Court #5) won their singles matches to even the match at 3-3. Moments later, Texas won the final singles match to win the Match overall, 4-3 over the Sooners.
Against Texas A&M, who the Sooners played in the Indoor Semis earlier on Feb 10th with the match score of 3-4.the Sooners dropped the Match 1-6. On March 2nd, once again the Sooners dropped the Double point. This is a distrubing trend. I would say over the past 2 or 3 years, the Sooners have probably won maybe 75% of the Doubles points in matches. It has been a strong key to their victories. Down 1-0, the Sooners were forced to try and win 4 of 6 matches in the Singles to win the match. Only Nahum (Court #6) won her Singles Match as she won in straight sets.
The Sooners now host the Missouri Tigers. At 1-2 in SEC Play, OU needs a win badly to right-the-ship. Missouri is also 1-2 in SeC Play. They have lost to #31 Vanbderbilt 0-7, #17 Alabama 1-4 and won over #55 Mississippi State 4-3. I think the Sooners have the ability to pick up a win tonight over Mizzou. Here is the pre-match article about the match with Missouri.

Ace shirts, posters, roster cards and yell sheets will be provided to fans entering the tennis facility until supplies last for both matches. Free bagels will also be available on Sunday.
I will be looking at a change in the Doubles lineup tonight. The Sooners need to return to form to win the Doubles Point. That may include Cara Mester returning to play in the Doubles. I think the Singles lineup is just fine at this point.
Good luck to the Sooner Women tonight against the Black and Gold Tigers.
