If Deal can continue to pitch like that, and we get Lowry back soon, we may have something here pitching wise. Hopefully Deal gets a huge confidence boost with that performance!!!

Yeah, there is nothing wrong with Kierston that a mental adjustment can't fix. She has a tendency to lose focus and start throwing balls instead of strikes when things go south. Today, she has been able to maintain her mental equilibrium and it showed up in a well-deserved win, 4 hits, one run off of a solo shot (although Nugent came pretty close one out later, flying out to the warning track).Mokasthunder wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 3:31 pm If Deal can continue to pitch like that, and we get Lowry back soon, we may have something here pitching wise. Agree 100%.. I have always thought that Deals issues were mental/confidence in nature. Stamina wise issues have kinda always been there for her as well, so I was happy that she was able to push through after 4 - 5 innings. Best performance i can remember from her since a few years ago against OSU!!! Just like I tell my kids, if you can do it once, you can do it again... So hopefully she builds off this and continues to "Do it again"..BudaSooner wrote: Sat Mar 29, 2025 3:42 pmYeah, there is nothing wrong with Kierston that a mental adjustment can't fix. Nice win! Very good job by Deal!
I do have a BIG question about the 5th inning ~
Hottest hitter coming to bat; left handed power hitter with the wind blowing from left to right. Runners on first and second with nobody out and a 3-run lead. WHY have her bunt to advance the runners and seemingly play for one run when the batter behind her is in a horrible slump (.176 or so in the last two weeks)?
IF ONE RUN is that valued, why not have Parker bunt?
I think Gasso is the best SB coach in history, but I think this was a BAD choice. Garcia only has 7 strikeouts. Her last two weeks are WAY ahead of her season average of .391. She leads with 11 homers. She seems as likely to get a hit as Parker was a deep fly. Garcia (power lefty) could have still hit a flyball deep enough to advance a runner from 2nd to 3rd.
GLAD we won, but the strategy was awful.

Wasn’t able to watch and maybe that’s a good thing! I’m so happy to see Deal have a great outing. About the time I give up on a pitcher they have a great showing and it couldn’t have happened at a better time for Deal and OU!
As to run/hit strategy I almost agree that something has been a bit off. Seems like when we should play small ball we do t and when we shouldn’t we do. I know Patty will get things tweaked but that seems to have hurt us in our losses just as much as the pitching.
Just super pumped about the win!

I wish someone would bring that up to her but her game plan baffles everybody. She did not let Gabbie hit last night. There would have been 1 out with the bases loaded. Please let Gabbie hit. I trust her more than Parker right now. I know Patty has the championships but coaches can make mistakes.

I don’t get letting Maya Bland bat. I’m not seeing anything from her to suffice having her at the plate. Same for Malloy. They’ve got work to do in the cage.

Reading this thread, (second-guessing Patty letting Coor and Maya Bland bat instead of Garcia (I admit, I was doing some second-guessing myself), then I wonder, how the Tennessee fans were maybe second-guessing Karen Weekly in her choice of starting Mardjetko instead of their hot young freshman pitcher Nuwer. All that she did was throw 3 innings giving up 1 hit, 1 BB and whiffing 2 batters, ZERO RUNS. Oh, and one hit batter. Pretty salty for a freshman... Now, on the other hand, the next time that we see her, we may lay a shell-shocking on her, who knows?
