Bottom post of the previous page:

He was the Co-DC. He’s going to be the boss at WV. How’s that a lateral move? 🙃

Just thinking out loud here, but here goes: BV reputedly is a bit of a micro-manager, at least as relating to Defense. Perhaps WV's Rodriguez told Alley you get to be 100% DC, nobody looking over your shoulder - - - AND BV possibly envisioning a return to HC/DC role for himself, with 100% responsibility to Arbuckle and Mateer coming onboard.

Engage in semantics if it makes you feel better about losing Alley. Fact is, he was Oklahoma’s defensive playcaller and left to be West Virginia’s defensive playcaller.

It appears the NIL money has really dried up after the QB addition and retention of some players, that is why they have had to go to the lower levels of division 1 and division 2 to get more players who they don’t have to pay much If any NIL money.

I will be stunned if they win more than 6 next year with what they have added in the portal and just b/c of the schedule. Michigan is shaping up to be a huge game. I don’t see much way for Venables to survive if they don’t win that game unless they just don’t have the money to buy him out.

They still need a CB, DE and DT thru the portal and maybe even a LB…will be interesting to see if they can add anyone there that is not from a school you hardly have heard of

The trafficking in rumor, supposition, just plain ignorant speculation is re-donk-u-lous.

Some choice quotes from this thread:
"All involved should be fired if true."
"BV reputedly is ..."
"It appears the NIL money has ..."
"If the money thing is true ..."

If, apparently, maybe, if, if, if. :smokingmad:

I could make up crazy end-of-the-world-wide-spread-panic scenarios all day - it would still be horsefeathers and hogwash.
People, at least TRY to have a reliable source and a link.

There’s a DL named Derrick Shepard in the portal. I’d say that is fate for OU. Offer him immediately or the football gods will punish you.

Not really, because most of the portal entries were due to processing. Most of that large number happened because of the new NCAA (and SEC) roster limits. These were players with long injury histories, or those looking for more playing time, and some no doubt looking for a better NIL Payday.

Hopefully, they all find what they are looking for and are able to be successful with their new teams. I have no ill will toward any of them unless it turns out that some of the injured could have played during the season but chose not to play - regardless of the reason.

What player2b posted was the list of transfers OU offered that did not choose us. Chose “lesser” programs.

So to encourage players to not transfer before their bowl games you have 5 days to enter the portal after your last game. Makes sense. As far as schools enrollment deadlines they mostly don’t exist anymore with the advent of self paced online classes. So it’s pretty easy almost everywhere to enroll in the minimum credit hours to be considered a student in the spring semester. Not sure what OUs rules are but I assume they have adjusted to this new reality.

As far as the contact rules during all this time and for guys in the portal after all these individual deadlines the rules read like really bad instructions and health insurance fine print. I have no idea who can contact who and when. I bet no one does.

Rules? What rules? There are no "rules" anymore. Schools are contacting players on other teams soliciting transfers & NIL deals before they've even entered the portal. More likely, the Collectives, under direction from the football program, are having these conversations with players. If you think OU wasn't talking with Mateer before he officially entered the portal, you're being naive.

The fact that OU still has a Compliance Department inside the athletic program is ludicrous to me. It should be eliminated & replaced with a fundraising group that works directly with the OneOklahoma collective to target wealthy, football-enthusiastic fans & alumni to build up a "war chest" to maintain & pay players on the roster & to be ready for "on-demand" giving to make offers to specific players from other teams, whether they're in the portal or not.

It's the wild west. There are absolutely no consequences for breaking any of the so-called "rules." The only rule that still applies is this: WIN. Do that by any means necessary.

More of these players lawsuits suing coaches, schools and collectives over non paid nil and the entire Wild West system will collapse. Can’t come soon enough.
