That combination of Jesus and Sooner Magic was over the top! With all our youth and inexperience this year, one or both of those items need to kick in again.who beat us in 24?

LOL. I am thinking it would be better to count on Patty developing them than relying on those two options but hey what do I know..inconnu wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 9:16 pm That combination of Jesus and Sooner Magic was over the top! There IS MORE TO IT - Several years ago, the U of Texas put out their college program...THEIR PROGRAM, and they spelled their name T E X S A on their own damn program. So, yes it denigrates them, but THEY put themselves in that place. It was printed and distributed as "Texsa."navier wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 1:49 pmI get that texsa is supposed to be a denigration of them but what is the significance of it other than demonstrating you don't respectcushcreekmont wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 12:30 pm The texsa wins last year were in Austin. They have to play OU in Norman this year. First year in the SEC will be different with some new venues, but Love's Field will be hugely different for OUr opponents (including texsa).
In SEC play, Fla seems to have the advantage (in my opinion). Lots of prognosticators have texsa as #1 (nationally as well as SEC). Since texsa has to play on the road against both OU AND Fla, they are likely to lose any and all tie-breakers.
OU plays at Fla, so UF has the biggest advantage over the other top 3 schools.
Prior to watching ANY games or seeing any scores, I would make the top three UF, OU, and texsa in that order.
them enough to spell the name correctly? Anything else or is that gist of it?
50 + years ago when I was an OU student, Tuck Fexas was written on every sidewalk before THAT game. Others referred to them as Texass and most of those I knew called them the shorthorns.
PS - Austin USED to be a nice place before it forced itself into becoming little San Francisco complete with lots of homeless and drugs. It was a good academic school in the 1970s when I went there for graduate school. I am not sure how high they rate now in academics, but I am certain that they rate top 5 in arrogance.
texsa sucks!

Last time I was there was about 15 years ago for an Engineering conference but my wife and kids were there in early Jan for a TX softball camp and had no complaints...but we live in Norman and there is no shortage of homeless people in Norman as well. Academically, I know the Engineering program is still very good...much better than OU'scushcreekmont wrote: Wed Jan 29, 2025 11:04 pm PS - Austin USED to be a nice place before it forced itself into becoming little San Francisco complete with lots of homeless and drugs. Txass surpasses OU in wealth, that is the ability and willingness to outspend the Sooners, and most other colleges, although aTm seems like it could be their rival in that department.

There were a few years there where the homeless encampments were huge and a real problem. They don't seem to be a problem anymore.
Universities are rated more on reputation than anything else. Next is probably research money. I know when I moved here after college, straight out of the CS program in the College of Engineering, my office mate was right out of UT. We compared our CS curriculums and OU's was a lot better than UT's.

Yes I know how they are rated..I teach in an Engineering department at OU and about 10 years ago our department had a whole committee charged with trying to improve our ranking.AustinTXSooner wrote: Thu Jan 30, 2025 5:25 pm

The Engineering School at UT is better in pretty much every measurable way possible including the quality of students they let in
There are still some very good students at OU but that has gone down lately after they stopped giving full rides to National Merit scholars because too many kids from TX were getting them and then not staying in the state after they graduated.
I recall a time late in the season last year when Patty was being interviewed in regard to losing some games prior to going into the playoffs and was asked if she had any concerns. She replied, "No, as the outcome had already been written." If that is the case I am most anxious to read the final chapter pertaining to this years team.

She said it had been written. She didn't(and she won't) say she has seen what was written...She will not be willing to say you can find what is written about the future.viacool wrote: Sat Feb 01, 2025 12:20 pm I recall a time late in the season last year when Patty was being interviewed in regard to losing some games prior to going into the playoffs and was asked if she had any concerns. IMO, there as many ideas about the meaning of, "It is already written" as there are people. It's an Ages old idea about the nature of reality, free will, fate, and destiny.
However, I can definitely see how, "It is already written" is a useful mental frame of mind to relieve the immense pressures of big time athletics. Patty has said many times how the young women on her team are "trying too hard" and/or "thinking too much;" a paradox, and I get that, too. Anything that gets in the way of "See Ball - Hit/Catch/Throw Ball" may affect performance. Stress over what is uncontrollable is counter productive in my book. Yet, it takes a bunch of work, effort, focus and reps to sharpen iron with another piece of iron.
A HUGE part of Patty's success, it seems clear to me, is that she treats the mental game on par with all the rest. I'm positive she has to take her own advice every day.
So, how many of the losses in '24 were the result of trying too hard, thinking too much, an injured All-American catcher, or just the fact the other team was better that day? Stick and Ball sports are so mercurial by nature anyway.
I hope as a fan I can maintain a gracious perspective on my favorite Sooner sport in '25. I'm thinking the team will be very salty this year!
