Oklahoma Women's Golf @ Illini Invitational - M & T

The Oklahoma Women's Golf Team is in Illinois for the next two days playing in the Illini Invitational in Medina, Illinois. This will be the ladies 3rd tournament of the fall season. The tourney is a 54-hole event with the teams playing 36 holes on Monday with a shotgun start at 8:30 AM CST. In Tuesday, the teams will play a final 18 holes. Fifteen (15) teams will compete in the tournament. The Sooners will use their best four rounds out of the five players playing for each round of 18-holes.

The Sooners team will include:

Mikhaela Fortuna, SR - The Senior has played very consistently in both of the previous events in the fall and has had the best combined score for the team.
Raychel Nelke, FR - The Freshman played well in the Schooner Fall Classic in her last outing showing a nice rebound after the her first weekend in California.
Savannah Barber, FR - The Freshman has played consistently in both previous tourneys with her best outing coming in the Schooner Fall Classic.
Maria Fernanda Martinez, Red-SR - Martinez has contributed in both previous tourneys for the Sooners. Martinez has the 2nd best overall play for the Sooners in the fall.
Kaylee Vesely, JR - The JR played on the Sooner 'B' team in the Schooner Fall Classic posting the 3rd best Sooner score for the tourney. She gets a 'start' this week.
The Sooners tee of on holes 7 thru 10 at the Medina Country Club at 8:30. The two rounds today can be followed via the GolfStat software. A link is provided in the article above.

Good luck to the ladies during their 36-holes of play on Monday. Medina Country Club had held PGA Majors in its history. The course should be a challenge for any golfer.

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Golf Team faced tough competition at Medina on Monday. The Sooners shot a 5-over 293 in their first round followed by a 5-under round on their second 18 of the day. Their even par day of 576 leaves them in 14th place, 25 shots of the lead. They are 10 shots off of a Tie for 9th place

Fortuna, Oklahoma's #1 shot a 73-68 on Monday for a net 3-under score. Her second round included an Eagle-2 on a Par 4.
Barber, Oklahoma's #3 shot a 72-70 on Monday for a 2-under score.
Martinez, Oklahoma #4 shot a 72-74 on Monday for a 2-over score.
Vesely, Oklahoma's #5 shot a 76-71 on Monday for a 3-over score. She rebounded well in her second round with a 1-under par round.
Nelke, Oklahoma's #2 shot a 76-74 on Monday for a 6-over score,

The Oklahoma Sooners Women's Golf Team shot their third round near par yesterday at the Illini Invitational at Medina.

The Sooner Team shot a 3-over par round with Martinez leading the Sooners with an even par round of 72. Fortuna, Nelke and Vesely all shot 1-over par, 73. Barber shot a 76, 4-over par.

The Sooner scores by round were 5-over Par, 5-under Par and 3-over Par. The Sooners finished in 14th place of 15 teams.

- Fortuna (#1 for the week) lead the team in the 2-day event with a 214, 2-under par. That was good for 34th in the individual scoring for the tourney.
- Barber (#3 for the week) and Martinez (#4 for the week) shot 218, 2-over par.
- Vesely (#5 for the week) shot 220, 4-over par in her first outing of the fall.
- Nelke (#2 for the week) shot 223, 7-over par.

The Sooners final fall tourney is October 23rd and 24th in the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, TX. the tourney is on a Sunday-Monday.
