OU Women's Basketball Set for Travel to Ft. Worth to play TCU!

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Basketball Team will travel to Ft. Worth for their Wednesday night 6:30 tip-off versus TCU. The Sooners (14-2) and in a 1st Place in tie at 4-1 for the conference lead will be favorites to win the game against the 0-5 TCU squad. The game will be televised on ESPN+. Chris Plank will call the action on the Sooner Radio Network (KREF 99.3 FM/1400 AM in Norman and KOKC 95.3 FM/1520 AM in OKC).

Here is the pre-game staff writers article about the OU @ TCU game.

https://soonersports.com/news/2023/1/17 ... -wednesday

TCU has scored 70 or more points in only 6 of their 16 games this season. As a team they shot less than 40% from the field and less than 30% from 3-point territory. They also shoot on 63.4% from the charity stripe. TCU just does not shoot the ball well. They average 56 shots per game and make 20.7 of them.

On the other hand, the Sooners take 69.9 shots per game and make 31.2 of them. The Sooners shot 44.7% from the field and 33.6% from 3-point territory and 72.6% from the free throw line. If Oklahoma is able to force the pace of the game and play their style of play, the better shooting Sooners should prevail in the game. But you do have to play the full 40 minutes to get any win.

A few updates on milestones for Robertson and Llanusa.

T-Rob has made 491 career three's in her career. The career mark is 495. Robertson needs 4 made three's to tie the Ohio State guard, Kelsey Mitchell.
T-Rob has 481 rebounds in her career. she is 19 rebounds from the 500-mark for rebounds.
T-Rob has made a 3-point bucket in 58th straight game. She is two games from 60-games straight with a Three.
Llanusa has scored 1475 points in her career. She is 25 points away from the 1500-mark for career points.

Oklahoma scores 86 PPG while TCU averaging 61.1 PPG. that alone should favor the Sooners if they are able to force their uptempo at all in the game. Hopefully, the Sooners play well early and have the game well-in-hand in the second half for their 4th win in a row. Good luck to the women against TCU.

While the Starting 5 for Coach Baranczyk and the Oklahoma Sooners were making sure that TCU did not surprise anyone last night, a bigger thing was happening in Lubbock. As the Sooner starters led the way to the Sooners 93-69 win over TCU, Texas Tech was working on upsetting the Texas Longhorns in Lubbock by the score of 68 to 64. Boomer Sooner! The Sooner Women basketball team is in 1st Place all by themselves in the Big 12. I wonder how long it has been since the Sooner fans could say that?

As I mentioned above, the starting five for the Sooners played well last night. When the five players as a unit were on the court last night, they outscored TCU 46 to 23 in 17:39 minutes of play. All other combinations for the Sooners chipped in by outscoring TCU 47-43 in the other 22:21 minutes of play. The smallest +/- margin for any of the 5 starters was 25 last night.

The Sooners also played very well in the first five minutes of each quarter. In those 20 minutes the Sooners outscored TCU 52-27. Here is how well the five starters played last night.

* Liz Scott had her 2nd double-double in a row with 12 points, 11 rebounds and 3 assists. Lia Scott is playing very well right now. she is not forcing things and just taking what is there and doing a very good job of receiving the ball in scoring positions and rebounding very well.
*Williams scored 19 with good shooting from the field as she was 8 of 10 from the field with 2 three's and a free throw. she added 7 rebounds and 5 assists.
* Llanusa found the range again and added 17 points with 4 rebounds and 5 assists.
* Robertson add 10 points that included 2 THREE's to add to her total. She had 3 rebounds and 2 assists as well.
* Tot ran the offense well and added 6 points on two 3's, 1 rebound and 7 assists.

The rest of the Sooners did contribute to the win also. Culiton had 10 ppints on 4 buckets and 2 free throws. She can score down low one-on-one with a good entry pass. But she stil has trouble getting the ball up for the shot in traffic. Vann played her usual steady game with 9 points and 8 rebounds. Joens added 6 points on two 3's. Tucker and Johnson each added 2 points.

Oklahoma shot very well last night as they shot 53.6% from the field, including 50% from 3-point territory. They were also 9 of 11 from the charity stripe as well. About the only bad number for the Sooners was the 23 turnovers that they had. The starters had 8 of those turnovers.

As previously mentioned, the Sooners are now 5-1 in the Big 12 conference and sits on top of the conference by themselves. Boomer Sooner! In last night's action, here are the other Big 12 results:

Texas 64 at Texas Tech 68. Texas drops to 4-2. Tech moves to 3-3.
OSU 64 at Iowa State 69. I-State is now 4-2 with OSU drops to 3-3.
Kansas State 48 at Baylor 69. Baylor improves to 4-2 with K-State dropping to 1-5.
West Virginia 58 at Kansas 77. Kansas gets back on the winning track and is now 3-3 with WV dropping to 3-3.

The Sooners will host the Oklahoma State Cowgirls on Saturday at LNC at 6 PM as part of another double-header with the men's game against Baylor at 3 PM. The Oklahoma Women need to even up the Bedlam series with OSU after the men's team fell apart on the second half last night to drop their game in Stillwater.

Other big games in the Big 12 conference women's action this weekend are:

Kansas plays at Iowa State on Saturday. It will be interesting to see if Kansas can play with I-State without I-State's Soares. Texas Tech can move above .500 with a win at West Virginia, but the travel to get to Morgantown can be tough. One of the two teams will be 4-3 with a win. K-State should get a win at TCU, but this might be the game that TCU wins in conference this season.

On Sunday, Texas travels Waco to play Baylor. The loser of the game will drop to 4-3 and out of the 2nd place tie in the conference.

Congrats to the Sooner Women for moving into First Place in the Big 12.
