Sooner Women's Basketball Hosts WV on Saturday at 2 PM in LNC !

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Basketball Team, currently in a tie for 2nd Place in the Big 12, host West Virginia, in 5th place, on Saturday at 2 PM in the Lloyd Noble Center. The game wil be televised on SEPN+ with Chris Plank and Dan Hughes on the call. Saturday's game is a Crimson Out, and the Sooners encourage all fans to wear crimson. The first 500 fans in attendance will receive a crimson shirt from Oklahoma Shirt Company.

Here is the staff writers article about the game on Saturday.

The Mountaineers come into the game with a 5-2 record in their last 7 conference games after dropping their first two Big 12 games. They are 5-4 in the Big 12 and 14-6 overall on the season. OU is 7-3 in the Big 12 race and is tied with Iowa State in second place behind Texas (8-2).

Earlier in the season OU defeated WV in Morgantown 98-77. OU played a great 1Q, and 2nd half to win the game going away. But after leading by a score of 30-19 at the end of the 1Q, WV outscored OU in the 2Q 28-14 and actually led OU 47-44 at the half. OU blew WV out of the gym in the 2nd half as they outscored WV 54-30. The three veteran seniors led the Sooners as Llanusa, Williams and Robertson scored 28, 24 and 18 points respectively. Oklahoma also scored 28 fast break points in the game with 14 second half points.

WV seems to be playing much better at this point in the season however. WV relies on Quinerly, Smith and Hemingway for their scoring.

OU's key to the game is it always is. The want to play the game with pace and sound ball handling with a defense that concentrates on rebounds and getting the ball up court quickly.

Good luck to the Sooner women on Saturday.

In other Big 12 play on Saturday, the games are:

Oklahoma State travels to Ft. Worth to play TCU - 1 PM on ESPN+.

Texas travels to Lawrence to play Kansas - 4 PM on ESPN+.

Baylor travels to Ames to play Iowa State - 5 PM on ESPNU.

On Sunday - Kansas State travels to Lubbock to play Texas Tech - 1 PM on ESPNU.

- The Baylor - Iowa State game is probably the game of the weekend in the Big 12 Women's games. Baylor can jump a notch with a win, Iowa State can maintain their 2nd place standing with a win.
- Texas and has a game that requires focus against Kansas but should be the favorite to win the game.
- The WV - OU game is much the same way. Oklahoma should win this game at home even with WV playing better as of late.
- Texas Tech will play in Lubbock to get out of the bottom 3 group of teams in the league.
- Oklahoma State should win at TCU and raise their record to 6-5 and perhaps move to 5th in the league.

93-68. That, ladies and gentlemen, was a good ol' fashioned butt kickin'! OU dominated that game from start to finish. Just a solid all-round game from just about every player. They distributed the ball, they shot well, hit their free throws, they rebounded, played some really good "help" defense... if they play like that they're really tough to beat.
I may not always be right, but I'm never wrong!

I agree about today's game. The Sooners might have played their best game all-around today against WV.

The Oklahoma Sooner Women played one of their better games of the year today gainst West Virginia at LNC. The Sooners played one of their better quarters of the year in the 1Q as they shot 70% from the field on including 50% from 3-point territory to score 32 points on 20 shots. They led WV 32 to 16 at the end of the quarter.

OU increased their lead in the 2Q as they scored 23 to WV's 21 and led 55-37 at the half. The Sooners came out of halftime and outscored WV 22-17 in the 3Q to take a 23[point lead at 77-68. OU slowed down a bit in the 4Q, but they still played better defense as they finished with a 25-point win 93-68.

Here is the staff writers article about the win by the Sooners.

The Sooners had a very balanced attack today offensively as Vann led the way with 16 points. Llanusa and Scott both had 15 points. Tot added 12 on 4 three's, Williams scored 11 with Culliton adding 9, Joens 7, Robertson with 6 (2 three's) and Tucker 2. No Sooner shot more than 12 shots today. They shot 52.2% overall today while shooting 42.9% from 3-point territory and 58.5% inside the arc. Oklahoma was also 9 of 10 from the free throw line.

The rebounds were spread out as well with 5 Sooners having 5 or more with Vann leading with 8. OU totalled 41 rebounds to 26 for WV.

On Oklahoma's 36 made shots from the field, the Sooners recorded 28 assists. that is a great ratio. They also had 8 steals. The Sooners scored 46 points in the paint against the guard-oriented team for West Virginia. OU also had 22 second chance points today. The only number I could find that was not a really good stat was the 17 turnovers. If I remember right, most of those were in the late 3rd Q and 4th Q.

I thought the 9-player rotation used today by the Sooners was very good. In addition to the usual starting five players (Tot, Llanusa, Robertson, Williams and L Scott) the Sooners played Vann, Culliton, Joens and Tucker. Johnson only played 3 minutes at the very end of the game. The 5 starters played between 19 and 29 minutes and the four primary subs played between 17 and 26 minutes.

Every one of the 9 primary players played well today and shared the basketball on offense and they worked hard on defense. The Sooners played good enough defense to get at least 3 shot-clock violations against WV today.

I did think that Quinerly and Smith played very well for WV today as they scored 24 and 19 points as they took half of the WV shots today.

The next game for the Sooners is on Tuesday night at Baylor at the Ferrell Center in Waco. Waco just defeated Iowa State in Ames 76-70. Oklahoma is now in 2nd place by themselves with a 8-3 conference record. Baylor is 7-3 and in 3rd place. Iowa State is in 4th with a 7-4 record. Texas defeated Kansas today to remain in first place with a 9-2 record.

Texas defeated OU 81-70 in LNC earlier in the season. Tuesday nights game will be a big game in Waco.
