Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis @ ITA Central Region Championship

The Oklahoma Women's Tennis team is at the ITA Central Region Championship in Lawrence, KS for play through the 16th of October.

Eight of the Sooner women tennis players will compete for OU in the tournament. Play begins today in Doubles and Singles.

Here is what I picked out from the schedule today for the Sooner Women.

Doubles:

Guzman - Shcherbinina (#1 Seed) plays at 9 AM.
Cisovska - Straker (#12 Seed) plays at 9 AM.
Garcia-Ruiz - Safarova (#7 Seed) plays at 9:45 AM.
Urrutia - Catanzarite (#9 Seed) plays at 9:45 AM.

Singles:

Straker (#9 Seed) plays at 2 PM.
Garcia Ruiz (#8 Seed) plays at 2 PM.
Safarova (#17 Seed) plays at 2 PM.
Guzman (#4 Seed) plays at 2:30 PM.

I cannot guarantee this is right, but I think it is.

In Doubles play - 10.8 Guzman, Dana - 10.8 Shcherbinina, Alina[1] and 15.1 Garcia Ruiz, Julia - 13.2 Safarova, Zdena[7] are still in the Main bracket and playing on Sunday.

In Singles play - 8.7 Guzman, Dana[4] and 10.6 Shcherbinina, Alina[6] and 9.3 Urrutia, Florencia[2] are still in the Main bracket and playing on Sunday.

I am not sure who, if anyone is still playing in consolation brackets in doubles or singles for Oklahoma.

I will admit that it is very difficult to track all of the matches trying to follow the brackets and the results online along with the reports on The Women's Tennis social media accounts. Sometimes, the two just do not match up. Here is the compiled stats that I have for the 8 Sooner Women.

Guzman - I have logged 4 straight wins for her and I think she is in the Semi-Finals in the Main Bracket today.
Urrutia - I have logged 4 straight wins for her and I think she is in the Semi-Finals in the Main Bracket today.
Shcherbinina - She won her first three matches and then lost in the Quarterfinals I believe. I do not see her scheduled for another match.
Straker - She won her first two matches and then lost in the Round of 32. She then won a match in extra play. I do not know if she plays again.
Garcia-Ruiz - She won her first two matches before losing a 3-set match in the Round of 32. I do not think she played again in extra play.
Catanzarite - She also won her first two matches before losing to her teammate Urrutia in the Round of 32. She then won a match in extra play. I do not know if she plays again.
Cisovska - She lost her first match followed by a win, then two more losses. I do not know if she plays again.
Safarova - From what I have logged, she has played three matches without a win.

If I have logged the matches correctly, the Sooner Women were 20-10 in singles matches so far with Guzman and Urrutia having one more match with a chance to advance to the Finals of the Championship.

Guzman-Shcherbinina - I have logged that they have won 6 straight matches, but the last match may be a duplicate win with different scores reported. I believe their doubles team is in the final for the second straight tourney.
Garcia-Ruiz-Safarova - I logged three straight wins for the duo before a loss in the Quarterfinals. I have not found where they have played again.
Cisovska-Straker - They won their first two matches before losing in the third round. I have not found where they have played another match.
Urrutia-Catanzarite - They won their first two matches before losing in the third round. I have not found where they have played another match.

If I have logged the matches correctly, the Sonner Women Doubles teams were 12-3 in matches so far and Guzman-Shcherbinina in the Finals with a chance to win their 2nd straight Championship.

There is no doubt that the Sooner Women's Tennis Team is making their mark at the ITA Central Region Championships this 'week'.

This is my final posting about the Central ITA Women's Tennis Tourney in Lawrence, KA.

In the article the playing results for each of the eight Sooners at the Central ITA's is logged. I actually did fairly well logging the matches from the brackets and the social media accounts.
