Savanna Barber, a Sophomore for Oklahoma Women's Golf Team, played superbly on Sunday and shot a 3-under 69 morning round and then a 7-under 65 in the afternoon round to launch herself into 1st place at the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos, Texas. Barber's game was simply very good on Sunday as she shot 2-under on Par 3s, 5 under on Par 4s and 2-under on Par 5s for the day. That is evidence that her irons and putter were spot on all day. With her length of the tee, she may even do better on the Par 5s today. I think she only had two bogeys all day with 12 birdies. Eight golfers are within three shots of Barber after the first 36 holes.

As a team the Sooners shot their best round of the fall with their morning round of 6-under par with a score of 282. In the afternoon the Sooners played well late in the round to shot 2-under par with a 286.

Isabella Schlick played well on Sunday as she shot a 2-under 70 followed by a a 1-over par 73 for a 1-under total of 143 for the day and sits in a Tie for 25th. Nina Lang turned in a good 1-over par total of 145 for the day as she shot Even, 72, in the morning round before shooting a 1-over par, 73 in the afternoon and is in a T-35th place. Reagan Cheney shot a 1-under 71 in the morning and a 3-over 75 in the afternoon to be in a Tie for 39th place. But she finished very strong in the afternoon as she carded three birdies on 16, 17 and 18 to finish her round to lower her score and move the Sooners up in the standings. Holly McLean shot a 4-over 76 in the morning before a tough afternoon round. McClean was 18-over par for the the day at 162.

Gracie Mayo, who is playing as an individual, shot two 74's, 2-over par, for a 148 total for the day and is tied for 48th place.

In a shotgun start today at 8:30 AM, the Sooner team starts on holes 7 thru 10 this morning. Mayo starts on 16 today.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the good day of play by the Sooners on Sunday.

Oklahoma finished in 4th Place in the Jim West Challenge after their excellent round on Monday morning where the Sooners shot 12-under par behind Schlick's 64, Barber's 69, Lang's 71 and Cheney's 72. The fifth member of the Sooner team, Holly McLean, rebounded very well on Monday to shot a 2-over 74 after a tough Sunday. Good for Ms. McLean.

I think it has been a while since OU finished as high as 4th in a tournament. I do not think they did that last year or so far this season. Great improvement for the Sooners.

Playing as an individual, Gracie Mayo shot a 3-under 69 on Monday.

I will have more on the Sooners at the Jim West Challenge tomorrow.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the final round on Monday at the Jim West Challenge. That was a very nice 12-under par round for the Sooners and a nice 4th Place finish. Barber and Schlick played very well for 54 holes with Lang and Cheney playing near even par golf in the 3rd and 4th spots.

The Sooners next action will be in Florida at the Hurricane Invitational on the 30th and the 31st of October. Here is to hoping that the Sooners build upon the success they had this week in Texas.
