Oklahoma 14 ORU 0
Sooners face UCONN tomorrow.
OU had a leadoff triple and scored on a fly out. However, ORU dominated the basepaths the 1st 2.5 innings thanks to 5 walks and an error. Still, they did not score.
Sooners get a 2 run HR in the 3rd and a 3 run HR in the 6th and the rout was on.

Sooner Baseball routs ORU in 14-0 shutout win to open Regional!
The Oklahoma Sooner Baseball jumped all over Oral Roberts University after the 5th inning on Friday night to win going away 14-0 with a strong shutout performance to open the Norman Regional play. The attendance at the gate was also strong with 4,332 fans watching the game.
Coach Skip Johnson rolled the dice somewhat and announced that Kyson Witherspoon would start the game on Friday against ORU in an effort to 'save' Braden Davis for the net game, hopefully in the winner's bracket on Saturday in an 8 PM game against the winner of the Duke-UConn game. A win in that game would put the Sooners in the Regional Finals on Sunday night at 8 PM with one win needed to advance to the Supers. So far, so good for the Sooners. Kyson Witherspoon was a bit shaky in the beginning, but he settled in well before his 6.0 inning start was over. Witherspoon left the bases loaded in the 1st inning as he struck out the 6th batter he faced. With two runners on in the 2nd, he did the same thing, struck out the 5th hitter. In the 3rd, again, he struck out the 5th batter with two runners on base. BUT, what ever Witherspoon did in the dugout before the 4th inning, he needs to keep doing it. Witherspoon pitched the next three innings in 1, 2, 3 fashion and faced the minimum of 9 batters in the three innings. By then the Sooners led 7-0 and were on their way to a victory. Carter Campbell was sent to the mound in the 7th and he pitched three scoreless innings allowing a single and double in separate innings before he added a 1, 2, 3 inning in the 9th. That completed the shutout by the Sooners. The Sooners allowed only 3 hits with 11 Ks and 5 walks. Witherspoon picked up his 8th win with Campbell pitching 3 strong innings and getting a save, his first.
On offense the Sooners were very good. The Sooners had 5 hitters pick up at least two hits and 3 of those had 3 hits. Madron, Carmichael and Mudler had 3 RBIs. The Sooners pounded out 17 hits that included 3 doubles, a triple and 3 HRs. They also had 4 walks and 2 HBP against 6 strikeouts. One concern, I noticed, was that 3B, Anthony Mackenzie was hit by the ORU pitcher in his last at bat. Isaiah Lane entered the game on defense after the inning. I hope that Mackenzie is fine and not injured. The post game article did not say anything about Mackenzie.
Spikerman, Madron, Carmichael and Mudler all had 3 hits. Madron had a big night with 2 doubles and a HR with a SFLY along with his 3 RBIs.
The news got even better for the Sooners in two ways. ORU pitched one of their two best starting pitchers in Hall, so he may not pitch until Sunday or Monday for ORU in limited innings. But the bigger news was that UConn (#3 seed in the Regional) defeated Duke (#2 seed) by the score of 4-1. That was not expected. Both Duke and UConn also held out their #1 pitchers in the game and threw the #2 pitchers in the opening game. But from what I read the #1 for Duke is a really good pitcher and his numbers back that up. The Sooners will avoid facing Santucci for Duke, for now.
With the UConn upset, Oklahoma will now play UConn tonight at 8 PM. It will likely be Braden Davis for the Sooners pithing against Quigley or Coe for UConn on the hill. Meanwhile, Duke will face ORU in the 2 PM game today with their #1 on the mound to stave off elimination.

TV designations for Saturday's games have yet to be announced across the ESPN family of networks. The game can be heard locally in Oklahoma on SportsTalk 1400 AM/99.3 FM or nationwide on The Varsity app.
Good luck to the Sooners today in the game.
