The Sooners turned in a good round in Round 2 on Sunday afternoon as they shot a 3-under Par, 285 to improve to 11-under Par, 565 for the Tourney. But the Sooners did fall out of 1st Place as Houston shot a very nice 10-under Par in the afternoon round to move to 14-under Par, 562. TCU turned in their second straight 7-under Par and are tied with Houston in 1st Place. OU sets in 3rd Place, trailing by 3 shots. Ohio State and UNLV are in 4th place at 5-undr Par, 572. Texas Tech is in 6th at 2-under Par, 574.

Individually, Makayla Tyrell continud her strong play as an individual player for Oklahoma with a 2-under Par, 70 to lower her total to 8-under Par, 136 and is in 1st Place individually.

For the team, Gracie Mayo shot a smooth 5-under Par, 67, in the afternoon. Reagan Chaney shot a 1-under, 71. Isabella Schlick rebounded to shot a 1-over Par, 73. Savannah Barber shot a 2-over Par, 74. That produced the 3-under Par team Score. Audrey Rischer shot a 75, 3-over Par.

The Oklahoma Sooner Women's Golf Team started the 3rd round on Tuesday morning 3 shots behind both Houston and TCU. The Sooners made a valiant run at both teams in thei play on Tuesday and at one time might have actually held the lead as I watched the scores on the course update. But a flurry of play at the end of the round left the Sooners 2 shots out of the lead and in 3rd Place in the Tourney. The Sooners shot the best round of the three top teams on Tuesday as they shot a 9-under round of 279 to make up 1 shot on TCU and 2 shots on Houston.

What is impressive is that the Sooners were the only unranked team in the tourney of the top six finishing teams. Here is the final team standings after 54 holes.

1st - TCU (ranked 23rd) ---> 22-under ( - 7 / -7 / -8 )
2nd - Houston (ranked 26th) ---> 21-under ( -4 / -10 / -7 )
3rd - Oklahoma (unranked) ---> 20-under ( -8 / -3 / -9 )
T4th - Ohio State (ranked 27th ---> 15-under ( -4 / -1 / -10 )
T4th - Texas Tech (ranked 47th) ---> 15-under ( -4 / +2 / -13 )
6th - UNLV (ranked 33rd) ---> 8-under ( +1 / -6 / -3 )

The Sooners should be moving up in the rankings after this week and their two, 3rd Place finishes at the Dale McNamara Invitational in Tulsa and the Jim West Challenge in San Marcos. They were 3rd out of 16 teams in Tulsa and 3rd out of 12 teams in San Marcos.

Individually, the Sooner Team was lead by Reagan Chaney who shot a very nice 9-under Par, 207 for the Tourney and finihed in a 5-way tie for 2nd Place. Chaney shot rounds of 68, 71 and 38. Gracie Mayo also shot a very nice 7-under Par, 209 for the Tourney and finished in a two-way tie for 8th Place. The other three team members turned in solid performances to complete the team effort. Audrey Rischer shot 1-under Par, 215 with rounds of 68, 75, 73. Savannah Barber shot 2-over Par, 218 with rounds of 73, 74, 71. Isabella Schlick also shot 2-over Par, 218, with her rounds of 76, 73, 69. Chaney, Mayo and Barber each counted all three of their rounds with Rischer counting 1 score and Schlick counting 1 score.

Playing individually, Makayla Tyrell also play outstanding golf and shot 8-under Par, 208 to finish in 7th Place all by herself. She shot rounds of 66, 70 and 72. It is interesting to understand if Tyrell was one of the 5 playing members for the OU Team the Sooner score could have improved either 9 or 10 shots depnding on which play she replaced. It has to be a very difficult decision for the coaches of the OU golf teams to figure out who plays each week on the 5-person team for Oklahoma with the talent they have assembled.

Here is the Sooner staff writers article about the Sooners very successful tournament.

The Sooners will be back on the course next week on October 28th and 29th in Fort Worth, Texas at the Charles Schwab Invitational.

The Sooner women are playing well with team depth this fall.
