SEC "Final" Soccer Standings - MSU is Perfect- Sooners in T-12th

Post by OUBeliever56A »

Here are the SEC Soccer "Final Standings" as of Oct 28th:

Bold teams are currently in the SEC Tourney.
(*) teams that OU faced in SEC play.

1st Place - Mississippi State(*) - 27 points -> 9-0-0 SEC -> 15-1-0 Overall
2nd Place - Arkansas(*) - 25 points -> 8-1-1 SEC -> 13-1-2 Overall
3rd Place - Texas(*) - 19 points -> 6-3-1 SEC -> 13-3-2 Overall
4th Place - South Carolina - 18 points -> 5-1-3 SEC -> 8-1-7 Overall
T5th Place - Auburn - 16 points -> 4-2-4 SEC -> 12-2-4 Overall
T5th Place - Vanderbilt - 16 points -> 4-2-4 SEC -> 9-2-6 Overall
T7th Place - Georgia(*) - 13 points -> 3-3-4 SEC -> 7-5-6 Overall
T7th Place - Kentucky(*) - 13 points -> 3-3-4 SEC -> 11-3-4 Overall
T9th Place - Texas A&M(*) - 11 points -> 3-5-2 SEC -> 8-8-2 Overall
T9th Place - Alabama - 11 points -> 2-3-5 SEC -> 9-5-5 Overall
T9th Place - LSU(*) - 11 points -> 3-5-2 SEC -> 8-7-3 Overall
T12th Place - Missouri(*) - 10 points -> 3-6-1 SEC -> 5-10-2 Overall
T12th Place - Oklahoma - 10 points -> 3-6-1 SEC -> 10-7-1 Overall --> Eliminated due to Tie-Breaker in head-to-head vs Missouri.
14th Place - Tennessee - 9 points -> 2-4-3 SEC -> 7-5-4 Overall
15th Place - Florida(*) - 5 points -> 1-6-2 SEC -> 4-7-6 Overall
16th Place - Ole Miss(*) - 1 point -> 0-9-1 SEC -> 5-13-1 Overall

There is one match left to play according to the Schedule on Wednesday, Oct 30th:

Tennessee at Florida --> With a win, Tennessee can pick up 3 points and vault themseles into 9th place all by themselves. With a tie against Florida, Tennessee picks up 1 point and moves into a tie with Missouri and Oklahoma. In this scenario, Tennessee eliminates Missouri due to a head-to-head win in the 3-way time with Mizzou and OU. If Florida wins the match, they get an "attagirl" and Tennessee stays home and does not play in the SEC Tourney.

I am surprised that the other 're-scheduled match' is not played. It would be the Mississippi State at South Carolina match. Mississippi State can not benefit from the match as they are already in first place. But Carolina can move from 4th to 3rd in the standings with a win. and into a tie for 3rd with a tie againt MSU. But it does not seem it will be played before the SEC Tourney.

I checked this morning to see if the game referenced above was perhaps scheduled to complete the SEC Soccer schedule of games. Poof! it was rescheduled.

Wednesday:

Mississippi State at South Carolina --> As noted above, with a Win, South Carolina can move into 3rd Place and jump over Texas. I really think that Mississippi State will fight hard for their undefeated SEC schedule to be completed at 10-0 despite being on the road and with them already have sewn up the SEC 1st Place spot in the Regular Season. I think MSU will win this match.

There were two rescheduled final matches that were played on Wednesday, Oct 30th. Only one match affected the final standings:

Tennessee at Florida --> With a win, Tennessee can pick up 3 points and vault themseles into 9th place all by themselves. With a tie against Florida, Tennessee picks up 1 point and moves into a tie with Missouri and Oklahoma. In this scenario, Tennessee eliminates Missouri due to a head-to-head win in the 3-way time with Mizzou and OU. If Florida wins the match, they get an "attagirl" and Tennessee stays home and does not play in the SEC Tourney.

I am surprised that the other 're-scheduled match' has not been scheduled. It would be the Mississippi State at South Carolina match. Mississippi State can not benefit from the match as they are already in first place. But South Carolina can move from 4th to 3rd in the standings with a win. and into a tie for 3rd with a tie againt MSU. Late on Monday it was decided that this game will be played.

=======

Mississippi State at South Carolina --> Mississippi State scored twice in the second half to win the match 2-1 to preserve their perfect SEC record at 10-0-0. Their 16-1-0 record fr the season is impressive also with their only loss to Wake Forest. Currently, MSU is ranked #2 and Wake is ranked #3 by the USC and MSU holds the #2 RPI spot with Wake at the #7 spot. Mississippi State remained in 1st Place in the SEC standings while South Carolina remained in the 4th spot in the SEC standings.

Tennessee at Florida --> With a win, Tennessee valuts itself into the SEC Tourney. With tie, they probably qualify for a spot in the SEC Tourney. Tennessee won the match 1-0 over Florida with a goal in the 43rd minute. The win vaults the Volunteers into 9th Place in the Final SEC Women's Soccer Standings. This shifts Texas A&M into 10th, LSU into 11th and Alabama into 12th. Missouri and Oklahoma then are in a tie for 13th in the SEC.

Here is the opening round of the SEC Women's Soccer Tournament in Pensacola, Florida.

Nov 3rd - Sunday:

7th Seed - Georgia VS 10th Seed - Texas A&M at 11:30 AM
6th Seed - Auburn VS 11th Seed - LSU at 2 PM
8th Seed - Kentucky VS 9th Seed - Tennessee at 4:30 PM
5th Sedd - Vanderbilt VS 12th Seed - Alabama at 7 PM
