Oklahoma Women's Tennis hosts DH Friday: Wichita State & Wyoming

Post by OUBeliever56A »

The Oklahoma Women's Tennis Team wil host two teams at Headington Family Center on Friday as they host Wichita State at 11 AM and the host Wyoming at 5 PM. The 16th ranked Sooner Women's Tennis Team is deep this spring as witnessed by their performance in the Miami Spring Invitational last weekend.

Coach Cohen has 4 veterans to build the Spring team around. Those 4 veterans, two sophomores and 5 freshman this Spring:

The veterans are Ava Catanzarite SR (LH), Alina Shcherbininia SR, Emma Staker SR and Julia Garcia Ruiz JR (LH). All four of the veterans have played well for OU with Shcherbinina and Garcia Ruiz finishing high in national tourneys the last couple of years in ITA play. Catanzarite and Straker do their jobs well also playing the 4-6 singles matches and 2 or 3 double regulary if not each week the last two seasons

The two Sophomores, Chloe Noel and Roisin Gilheany also played in almost each match with Noel playing singles and doubles while Gilheany teamed with Shcherbininia in doubles very often.

Four of the five new Freshman, Emma Ghirardato, Cara Mester (LH), Gloria Nahum and Salkthip Ounmuang have all played well in the fall. Ghirardato might be a doubles-focused player with the other three playing doubles and singles. Red-Shirt FR Samantha Fulnecky is recovering from a wrist injury last season.

I think that Coach Cohen could send out maybe 8 or 9 players to represent Oklahoma in the two matches on Friday.

Good luck to the Sooners!

The #16 Oklahoma Sooners Women's Tennis Team opened their Spring Dual season with two matches on Friday. At 11 AM, the Sooners faced the Wichita State Shockers and then faced the Wyoming Cowgirls at 5 PM inside the Headington Family Tennis Center.

The Sooners defeated Wichita State 4-0 as Oklahoma won the Doubles point with wins in the #1 and #3 match and then won the first three Singles matches to finish at #2, #3 and #4 spots. The Sooners were ahead in the three other Singles matches when play was halted due to the 4-0 win by OU.

The Sooners also won their match over Wyoming 7-0 as all matches were played to completion. The Sooners won the Double point once again as they won all three matches and then swept the six Singles matches.

The Sooners sent out 8 players for the match against Wichita State and then sent out 7 players against Wyoming. In each matcn the Sooners sent the same 6 players out to play in the Doubles but switched the players around in the #2 and #3 teams in the match with Wyoming. In Singles the Sooners sent out 8 different players to play in the two matches.

Out of the 24 Oklahoma spots for players in the two matches, The Sooners sent out freshman to fill 11 of those spots. The three freshman used to fill those spots are Salakthip Ounmuang, Gloria Nahum and Cara Mester. They joined veterans, Alina Shcherbininia, Ava Cazantarite, Emma Straker, Julia Garcia Ruiz, and Chloe Noel who played in 13 of the spots for the Sooners.
