#12 OU Women's Tennis hosts #68 Kentucky & #8 Tennessee Fri-Sat!
The #12 Oklahoma Women Tennis Team (3-2 in SEC) will host #68 Kentucky (0-5 SEC) on Friday at 5 PM and #8 Tennessee (3-2) on Sunday at 1 PM at the Headington Family Tennis Center just west of the LNC. The Sooners are in a tie for 5th place in the SEC. Oklahoma needs to take care of business on Friday as the play Kentucky before facing a strong Tennessee squad in a key match for OU as they try to remain in the race for the SEC Title.

The key to every Women's match for is the Double point. OU usually needs the Doubles point Win to win the match. But the bottom-half of the Sooners singles lineup is usually winning key matches also each time.

I think it is safe to say that the OU Women's Tennis Match with Kentucky will be plyed indoors due to the wind.

The #12 Oklahoma Sooner Women's Tennis Team posted an impressive score on Friday afternnon/evening as they defeated a ranked Kentucky squad 6-1 at the Headington Family Tennis Center. Julia Garcia Ruiz, one of the top Sooner Women players, did not compete in the match yesterday. to fill for her absence the Sooner coaches pulled up Cara Mester FR Lefty to play Doubles and Chloe Noel to play singles. The Sooner Women have good competitive depth this season to ba able to recover from the loss of Garcia Ruiz for the match.
Competing indoors at home for the first time since Feb. 4, Oklahoma (11-3, 4-2 SEC) secured its eighth doubles point of the season to open the match.
Kentucky struck first on Court #1 as the No. 87 duo of Elizabeth Stevens and Ellie Eades defeated OU's No. 63 Alina Shcherbinina and Cara Mester, 6-3. Shifting momentum in the home team's favor, Salakthip Ounmuang and Chloé Noël responded with a 6-3 win over Asuncion Jadue and Julia Zhu on Court #2. On Court #3, Ava Catanzarite and Gloriana Nahum clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 victory over Zoe Hammond and Ellie Myers. Both OU's No. 2 and No. 3 doubles teams improved to 3-0 in dual play.
In singles play, No. 74 Emma Staker got the singles rally started for the Crimson and Cream with a straight-set victory over Stevens, (6-1, 6-3) on Court #3. On Court #5, No. 98 Nahum secured the third point after beating Jadue, (6-3, 6-3). The SEC Co-Freshman of the Week is on a five-match singles winning streak. Making her third start on Court #2 in singles, Salakthip Ounmuang delivered the match for the Sooners with a 6-3, 6-2, victory over Zhu. Oklahoma had their sweep of 4-0 in the Match for the Sooners 4th March win in the SEC.
The two teams decided before hand to complete all matches so the three remaining matches continued. Ava Catanzarite defeated Tess Bucher 6-4, 6-2, on Court #4. On Court #6, Chloe Noël secured a 6-4, 7-6 (8-6), win over Myers. The win by Noel made the score 6-0 Sooners. To close out the match, the Wildcats would pick up their first and only point at the top court, as No. 101 Hammond knocked off OU's No. 34 Shcherbinina in a third set, 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

The Sooners are now 4-12 in SEC Play and remain in the top 7 teams in the Women's Tennis standings. The Sooners return to the court on Sunday against No. 8 Tennessee in wht is a Big Match for the Sooners. First serve from the Headington Family Tennis Center is scheduled for 1 p.m. CT. Fan's attending Sunday's match are encouraged to wear crimson. OU tennis-themed tote bags and crimson poms will be available for free while supplies last.
Congrats to the Sooner Women as they moved two players into the lineup and still won in a strong fashion on Friday. Hopefully Garcia Ruiz will be back soo to play for the Sooners.
