The reason NIL got out of control is because the NCAA refuses to police it. After the NCAA got sued they threw their hands up and said you all do what you want to. What goes on now got SMU the death penalty, Now it’s all perfectly legal. And what’s not legal probably goes unchecked.

Agree.
i'm afraid "college sports" is lost and gone forever.
what we have now is some form of semi-pro.

I think at this point now, we are in a holding pattern on several other transfer candidates while they wait on Canady's decision. I suspect that is why we haven't heard anything from the Blanchard, Mardjetko, Melnychuk, and Landry camps. They, like the schools they've reached out to are probably waiting on Canady. Guessing at the schools that put in a bid for Canady, we could definitely say Florida, Fla St, Texas A&M, maybe even Texas, and probably Tx Tech, and us of course. Texas really has a full pitching room with Morgan, Kavan, Gutierrez, and Simpson. Should they land her, it would probably land Gutierrez spot duty and Simpson to the bench. Aside from Texas, the other schools that lose out will then probably gobble up the four pitchers mentioned above and then we go on down the road. Texas would definitely make her their #1 (like any of us) but they'd also just like to keep her out of our hands.
A couple of weeks from now, the transfer season probably winds to a close.

To be fair the NCAA has given up enforcement because all attempts to curtail the runaway train of transfer and NIL have been defeated in court . Apparently the courts do NOT understand or embrace the concept of amateur athletics .

One of the issues that has perplexed my mind is this:

Are the remaining transfer pitchers all willing to wait until Canady's decision before they ink a deal with another team?

This blows my mind! It feels a bit demeaning. Sort of like, "Hey, Beverly! Would you go to the prom with me....if Jennifer turns me down? Please take this as a compliment!"

I guess it would be up to Beverly to decide....but if I were her dad, I'd have some feelings about it.

EVERYBODY knows that Canady is in a group that is singular. She throws 75 mph, good control, and has some junk pitches, including change-ups. Her ERA is unique. The Beverlys needn't have false pride. Canady can be a queen maker, with any team that has respectable hitting.

The Beverlys aren't going to commit until they know where Canady is going, They don't want to end up on the same team.

I bet all the Beverly's wind up at the dance with a new partner within 24 hours after NiJa Inks her deal.

Thanks for the replies everyone. It helps me see this through the eyes of others. There are still aspects that would be hard for me, personally, to accept in this situation, and that is not the way everyone should, could, or will see it.

I kind of forgot the person speaking to Beverly might be the most desirable date to the prom in school, the town, the state, and the nation. Maybe a, "Great! I'll be waiting for your call," is the best response. I'm sure lots of people are faced with the same choices all the time (though on a much less than national sport level). Do I let others choose for me first - or do I do the choosing? No judgement either way from me. I can understand that many players would love to be offered by OUSB whatever the circumstances.

So, do you think if Canady picks another school than OU, that all those other portal pitchers will be waiting for a call from Coach before they consider going elsewhere? It looks like that is so right now. What a luxury for OU!

I am not worried about it. I believe OU will field a very good team in 2025. In the larger picture, the program is in great shape for the future.

I bet there's at least one Beverly who would like to go to the same school as where Canady does, simply to get a NC, regardless of how much or how little she gets to pitch.

So do the transfer portal players have until the 1st day of classes in august to make their decisions?

As long as they are able to enroll in classes for the "fall" or "whatever quarter" applies for the school, yes, they have until that date.

:ou: Tyler McComas said that another accomplished pitcher visited OU after Canada that even if they get Canady, they may still take. Anyone know who he is talking about.

The transfer season for all practical purposes is over and I expect our roster is set.
But we did have a late transfer enter the portal yesterday and I believe she will be a good pickup for whoever does land her.
Hailey Rainey from Cal State Fullerton entered the portal, because, I assume, there was a late coaching change there.
She doesn't have bad stats at all: 19-7 with a 1.68 era. She had 29 starts and 11 CG. Also, she had 159 K's vs 60 FB's over 178.2 IP
What caught my eye was she only gave up 2 HRs all season.
She looks like she'd be a good pickup for Washington (she's actually from Washington), but I could also see her winding up at UCLA
She will be a Senior next year so wherever she goes, it will be one and done.
